Is the problem that you want formulas to make sense on their own without the surrounding text? That's not how math is meant to be read. Formulas are reserved for only a few thoughts that are best expressed in that concise notation. The

The phrase "an A to B compiler" might not gain anything from changing compiler to transpiler, but the phrase "an A compiler" does.

Not necessarily. You might just be extra patient, or not use many plugins, or only use well behaved ones that down slow down startup that much. I remember years ago when I used Vim I had pretty slow start up time for a while but narrowed th

I would think that the rationale for any language with the syntax of Lisp but semantics similar to X is obvious: you want a language like X (that can be used for the things that X is used for) but with the meta-programming capabilities prov

The same? That's pretty odd. You've never had fun without learning something at the same time, nor learned something without having fun. For me only one of those things is true: I think I always have fun learning, but I certainly

That bit about the stationary distribution not changing if you add a diagonal matrix sounds completely wrong to me. Let me see if I understand what you mean. Given a matrix M with non-negative entries (and no row of just zeros), let S(M) de

Or maybe Haskell is also a hybrid? I know about the type theoretic accounting tricks used to stay pure, but when I really need unboxed mutable arrays and several tight loops, I just use the ST monad and write code that is psychologically co

I'm partial to Emacs on Windows. Install a few extra GNU utilities and for the most part you won't even be able to tell you are on Windows. :) (It's really only a few: I just use aspell, diff, grep and find.)
