I kind of disagree with you here, but you are close. The US military encourages critical thinking in all its ranks (something many other nations do not do), but it has to do so while discouraging risky behavior. This is what is so difficu

I am glad that someone who knows more about language than I do can make a sophisticated sounding arguement that I can regurgitate to make myself sound smart. Who cares if it's correct or not, I can belittle a lot of people with words like

From what I understand, it's fairly expensive. It's tough to make a profit on a phone when the battery costs $500. Costs are surely coming down but I think we'll have to wait before it hits the mass markets. From the wikipedia page on gr

If you want an excellent OR role model, I suggest you check out Gene Woolsey. He has a book that is a collection of stories of real world OR, not just solving traveling salesmen problems: http://www.lionhrtpub.com/books/wp1.html He's an

It's nice to see OR get some love on HN. I think one of the biggest problems with OR practitioners is that we have a hard time articulating what we bring to the table. My job title is "suitability analyst," but that doesn't tell the whole

I don't know much about this guy's particular details (obviously), but he knew the rules. To break it down into something easy to understand, here are the the only two ways to continue getting money from the government after you quit: 1.

This thing has more in common with a homebuilt kit plane like a Vans RV-8 than it does with a modern fighter jet. No HUD, and the rest of the c *pit looks like it is made out of styrofoam and plywood. The exhaust doesn't even have a vari

I'll concede the point that pip can't handle non-python packages. But it can handle side by side versioning by way of virtualenv. But if I need a specific version for a project I just install that version into my virtualenv's /bin/ folder

I'd like to just use apt, it won't work for me. At least with Python, pip easily integrates virtualenv, which isn't true of yum or apt as far as I know. Plus, python devs can package once for pip and have it work on any system, without h

I agree. None of these myriad package managers does anything that pip doesn't do. Virtualenv + pip still can't be beat.

Short domain names are hard to get on account of there being fewer possible combinations. Finding a short domain that meshes with your application is definitely valuable, since it is easier to remember and type. We can debate whether or n

Sites like these rise and fall on two things: the delivery of the content, and the quality of the content. The delivery here is top notch, I found it very easy to navigate and get the information I wanted. I know your community is small

I went and did a couple searches and the publications search always cut out after the first page. The list of authors would continue for multiple pages though. Not sure if this is a bug or if I'm doing something wrong, but I thought I'd p

I'm not sure I understand why the spike happens. Is there some etiquette that says you must wait until the T.V. show is finished before you may start making tea (why not switch the kettle on during a commercial break)? Also, is tea in the

I'm pretty sure I know the guy that wrote this (seriously, how many physicists named Alex Alaniz are there?), and he can't have LaTeX on his work computer because of some really dumb rules. So I don't blame him for it being an exported Wor

Flash is pretty much non existent on the Pi. The XBMC based distros can supposedly do some flash but it's pretty wonky and the other distros like Arch Linux and Raspbian don't have it at all.
