I've already chimed in elsewhere in this thread, telling my story (I'm an owner of a 8,1 MBP who bought my laptop just to run linux on it). I've found that Ubuntu has the most "mature" Apple user community. They have their own PPA (which,

I'm a 2011 MacBook Pro (8,1) owner who, due to some lapse of rational thinking, bought the laptop with the intent of running Linux on it from the get-go. tl;dr -- Natty was a horrible experience for Sandy Bridge systems, but Oneiric has b

You might consider the Nook Color. $250 gets you a very capable android device (it's an official CyanogenMod device), although it lacks some of the usual bells and whistles one might expect in the tablet space (front-facing camera, gyro, et

This is the programmer/IDE-dweeb's version of "well yeah.. but does it run Linux?" Only half joking; the parent's comment is exactly what I thought after searching through the feature list. It's funny how, when forced to work outside of vim

Yes. My thoughts exactly. I recall seeing different incarnations of this "evolving story", so it inspired me to whip up this quick, lame flowchart of my understanding of the timeline that lead to this post on RWW: http://www.gliffy.com/pub

This is a great series. I'd recommend anyone who doesn't consider themself an agile veteran (And many of the people I've met who do) read and understand these blog posts. If anything, they do a superb job of providing a low-level primer on

FYI for other users: installing Gnome3 via UGR ( http://ugr.teampr0xy.net/ ) will break your unity install. Ubuntu (and Unity) is still Gnome2-based (I haven't heard anything, yet, concerning a move to Gnome3 for a future release). So upg
