All this time we were too focused on automation stealing our jobs that we didn't realize the birds were stealing our automation-creation jobs!

Another one from google: flatbuffers. We use this at work mostly to be able to be ISSU proof in out data models. It has some useful features for this like checking that the evolution of a data model is in line with ISSU compliancy guideline

I have heard of IPFS's bad performance quite often and as you point out it is weird because I know that isn't specific to distributed storage in general. How much of this is implementation specific though? Would it be possible for

As a part of the claimed "simplicity" of C is limited ability for hidden control flow in the language. The "nothing magical happens" is both a pro and a con of the language. Things work as described in the code, not as d

Since the article mentions that "all shading languages are very close to C" I would like to mention Futhark as a language that compiles to Spir-V. It is still super experimental and I would never suggest it as a true replacement f

True,it will probably have an economic impact. Still, there are several ad options/platforms still available (Google, Tiktok,...) so one would hope that a sizeable amount of the businesses would be able to move their ad campaigns to th

Sorry I might not be understanding. Your suggestion seems more reasonable, but I don't understand how other large companies wouldn't be in the same situation as FB if this would be the case. Is FB just the first one to notice?

Guessing you are talking about the general case...? Bobby Kotick is hardly "new" to the Activision leadership position. He has been there for quite a while.

I think on Steam games that take clear inspiration from Rogue (so top down, turn based, maybe ASCII based) are tagged Traditional Roguelikes. I personally like the Roguelike/Roguelite split you outlined but I can understand why people

Have been looking at the Magma collective's stuff a few times in the past. They work on interesting stuff. Especially the distributed file storage stuff.

Maybe I missed it but I don't see anyone mentioning Git blame. It is great tool to see how recently some part of the code you are working on were changed and by who, so you know who to ask. Also good to know what kinds of commits happe

A python script could be a text doc if you open it in a markdown editor. A yaml file could execute web call if run through a program with a parser. It is all up to the interpreter you give the code too. Your program that takes yaml config i

It is also not the same body that selects for the Peace Prize as the Physics one (different body in a different country), so I don't see how that could be used in any way as an argument against these ones.

Ever since I learned about Git merge strategies and wrote a very basic one myself, I've been wanting to write one that syntaxticly understands a bit of the test framework code we use at work. It is super annoying when you copy a test b

I haven't tried it myself yet but Dhall is able to output nix files which then makes it possible to write with types in Dhall and then output the nix files (without types annotations) when they would be used.
