It does seem very much like a kludge to get pseudo named parameters working. It would be great to see this dropped as a hash syntax and used for only named parameters in 2.0. The genie does seem to be out of the bottle though :(

To the end of clarifying your message - Given that people don't do, little bits of exercise throughout the day, I need some examples of exercises that I could do at my desk, or in the office kitchen or on an escalator. I simply couldn't vis

The point about the templates is that they're evaluated in the same context as the actions. Have a common context between the controller and the view makes a lot of sense to me. I don't see any reason why this is necessary though, you could

Here's my 2 cents (I'm a rails developer). The rails command exhibits 2 qualities which I value greatly, good encapsulation and a high signal to noise ratio. When I create a new project that is exactly what I'm concerned with, I have no int

I agree, the java community is generally extremely risk averse. This does however create a positive pressure towards such a fork. It seems very hypothetical at the moment but given that a fork were to receive backing from google I'm sure t

A large part of the value of a hello world is to check that you've actually installed the language correctly and can compile/run code. Printing hello world is just the simplest way of proving it.

I think the source of confusion is that linking is closely associated with chains. When you add a link to a chain you always add the new link to the existing chain or ln -s new_link (onto) existing(chain) Obviously the target isn't a chain

I've found that when I'm in the backseat we can be most productive as a pair if I spend my time trying to keep the driver in flow. When I first tried pairing the programmer control freak in me made this very difficult. I was effectively try

The difficulty I have here is that you associate unit testing with a large time cost. If you had good TDD knowledge then the length of time it takes to write a test is only slightly longer than it would take you to think about exactly what

I should clarify what I mean by 100% test driven. By this I mean that no line of code was written without first having a test written for it. While you can't practically achieve 100% coverage of all code paths you can at least exercise all

As both a TDD and HN fan I'm really quite surprised to hear the anti TDD rhetoric here. To the detractors here are some honest questions: 1) How many projects have you worked on that were 100% test driven and written outside-in? 2) Do you h
