I don’t know where you are from but seeing sauna gain popularity outside Finland and Estonia lately has been refreshing. It is commonplace thing here and I don’t think we attach so much theory or consider ”using” it for any particular reaso

If me and a cat were thrown into random woods my money would be on the cat surviving for longer period. I think humans are pretty fit in groups, but cats are functional enough to make it on their own. I think human style intelligence we app

I feel it for Meta, this is a really hard problem. Why is it allowed only in certain neighbouring countries and not all? Why now? Why make exception in this conflict and not the others? I think it is hard to accept that company in US makes

War is not pandemic, but it’s recent life changing event we are all living through. I find it telling nobody even mentions it in this thread. There has been some scary moments, feeling that things are globally off the rails, lots of casualt

I fix some stuff even if it’s more expensive than buying new one. It’s nice to keep old things going, not to produce waste and often times the new thing is cheap because it’s not ’made the way they used to make them’

Also compression. ARRI 2.5k cameras made decent images as they were lot less compressed as some 4K cameras at the time. Netflix streams 4K but often doesn’t look so great over internet compared to any cinema in my area which projects only 2

Yes I am using videotoolbox. I need to clarify that ffmpeg is not slow (it runs close to realtime bit under 20 fps) problem is that other tools reach 72 frames per second.

Yes it does. I am using hw acceleration. This is using mac hardware so not all options are available, but the ones I have tried do not make significant difference.

I’m using ffmpeg to transcode files. My users give feedback that it is really slow. At first I thought they are wrong as I believed ffmpeg is as fast as it gets, but sure enough after testing transcoding (prores -> h264) is many times sl

So the theory is that the entire profession of architects is against constructing buildings people actually want? Or that times have changed and we lack the environment and infrastructure to achieve what we once could do.

I find it amazing that most commenters find nothing good in contemporary architecture but at the same time seem to believe that if only somebody did the right thing things would be better. I think it is pretty obvious that there are hard co

I think trying to get average urban/rural numbers is interesting but also misleading. What matters is what is actually happening and where the harm is produced. My city is heated with district heating, which comes from coal. Thats big

Sure there are decent smart phones that only costs 100 euros, but I was referring to the fact that in 1996 communicator was deemed too expensive for consumer market, but now top of the line iphones sell huge volumes.
