Big things from KDE lately. If you haven't tried it since the pre-Plasma days, I really recommend giving it a go. Fabulous as a general DE.

No. (You?) One of the things that was so magical about this game is that you never knew what the real limits were. Some things were just childhood fantasies, like getting beyond the waterfall, but other things like this actually were possib

Well, I’m in the US and have been following politics closely for the entire time window you mention, and this year marks the first time I’ve heard it. It is very jarring and a notable rhetorical shift from the concept of “service”.

Same feeling here. What Valve has done honestly leaves me in awe. The Steam Deck is the best device I’ve ever owned, and probably the only one I unreservedly love.

Agreed about Duke3D movement being superior to Quake's. Not Doom (at least not for me personally), but I agree about Quake, which feels "artificial" -- no momentum.

Duke3D is one of those weird games where I don't respect it as much as Doom or Quake, but I have to admit I've had a lot of fun playing it at different points in my life. Some seriously great memories deathmatching with friends on

Been amazing to see how far tech companies have fallen in public esteem (good). I remember when my friends and I would get together to watch the new MacBook announcements, eager to see what was coming. Feels as distant now as sk8erboi cultu

This is definitely not the case, and I invite anyone reading this comment to install a Linux distribution themselves in a VM or something to find out via direct experience. Fedora is a good place to start in my opinion.

I wouldn't know what to recommend for "just works" photo syncing from the phone à la iCloud.

I used macOS as my daily driver from Tiger to last year, actually. I don’t know what the inconsistencies you’re referring to are, but I certainly prefer them to cloud account nagging and constant attempts to monetize user behavior, which i

Gnome has improved significantly since the difficult Gnome 3 launch, and KDE Plasma was a massive upgrade that keeps getting better all the time.

It really has gotten to the point where Linux offers the best option for a sane desktop experience. Watching Windows and macOS implode while KDE and Gnome slowly get better and better has really been something. Not quite at the point I'

I missed out on Warcraft III the first time around. What's the best way to play the original game today?

As an Emacs user, my reaction to this is positive. The version that shipped with macOS was so out of date that it just tended to confuse potential new users

Usage metrics don't reveal preference in all cases. The fact these companies are sketchy/untrustworthy is practically a meme, including among non-tech people. Their services are widely relied upon, but they enjoy very little subje

Steam Deck is the device of my wildest childhood/teenage dreams. A fully functional portable Linux computer that also plays PC games, are you kidding me?! But I do get how it's not really in the same category of old school handhel

I think there are two reasons this hasn't happened: (1) Wine might be useful to Microsoft at some point for providing backward compatibility in Windows itself; (2) it would be an extremely bad look/PR disaster to go after this pro

The main way I discover new music on Bandcamp is by browsing the collections of people who also own albums I love to check what else they bought.

It brings a nostalgic tear to my eye to see the OS flame wars heating up like it's 2002 again. Time to re-download some of those 1024x768 3D render wallpapers of Tux smashing a Windows computer Edit: Here we go: https://wall
