Typically removing support for a platform is considered breaking, because users on those platforms can still run the previous versions, but cannot upgrade beyond the point where support was dropped. Very commonly seen in various Node librar

On the Raspberry Pi, you can pretty easily switch off the HDMI output via shell commands, which sends most displays into low-power standby. It takes a couple seconds to switch back on and wake the screen when activity is detected, but the t

Use a PIR motion sensor to only turn on the screen when someone is around. Mine has been running for years with a 27" LCD inside, the average power use is negligible when it's in <1W standby most of the time.

Not OP, but we have a very similar setup. We use https://github.com/vega/ts-json-schema-generator in a prebuild hook to generate a schema from Typescript. The schema is then fed into Fastify, and referenced in route co

Doesn't have to be monthly - sometimes I have months at a time with no subscription running at all. Once one "fills up" or there is a specific show I want to watch _now_, I activate that service and immediately cancel it. I g

May be. To me it's easily worth the hundreds of Euros in savings from not having running subscriptions to more than one service at a time. Oftentimes I have no running streaming subscriptions at all. I guess I watch a lot less than man

Not at all. I do the same thing, and the key is to cancel the subscription immediately upon signing up. You keep the one month you've already paid for, and don't need to worry about recurring cost.

There's a great concept that I found out about reading Schlock Mercenary (a sci-fi webcomic), about using a gas giant as an interstellar spaceship [1]. It probably originates elsewhere, but it was nicely explained there. You build a &q

I don't know what the exact mechanism is in Germany, but it works. The only unwanted calls I get maybe once every couple months is random British headhunters who probably got my work number from an email signature or another profession

I had a couple black cars and currently a white one. Imho, black is much more susceptible to dirt, even the lightest dust is visible immediately. White is quite a bit better but still needs a wash every now and then. And then there's &

Ok, in this case a parametrized test is not the best approach, I agree. But I would still want to avoid the for-each and "failing fast". One approach would be to gather the required attributes in an array or a struct of some sort,

Hm. I think my main issue there is not the speed, but rather seeing the whole picture at once. You mentioned you use this pattern to test regular expressions; say you modify the regexp in question with some new feature requirement, and now

This seems like a test design issue to me. Best practice is to avoid for-each loops with assertions within tests - using parametrized tests and feeding the looped values as input is almost always a better option. Figuring out which one fail

Something like this for ImageMagick would be awesome. Its CLI syntax is not quite as arcane as FFmpeg, but the sheer breadth of available options and the power of possible combinations is similarly insane.

Pihole only does DNS-based filtering, which only works when ads are served from a different server/URL than the hosted content. Youtube serves both from the same addresses, so DNS blocking is ineffective - in-browser filtering like uBO

You can use NNW with a Feedly account. Then you can still use the web UI or other clients on non-Mac platforms, and your feeds are kept in sync everywhere.

New MBPs are exactly 16:10 for full-screen, non-"notch-aware" apps - the screen is basically 16:10 below the notch, plus the two side areas. Rather neat solution imho.
