We tried this with the web app launcher at https://starthq.com . Visitors could create their app launcher before signing up. It did not work as expected as users were confused and few completed the process. Right now we ask for t

If you want to get some of the benefits mentioned in the article with Node, check out my Common Node projects which uses fibers to emulate threads and a synchronous environment: https://github.com/olegp/common-node Her

If you're catching exceptions all over the place, or worse using them for flow control as part of normal operations, you're doing it wrong. Exceptions should indicate a major error that you can't easily recover from and as su

Where are you now? It might be easier if you were to visit Finland first on a tourist visa and apply from here. There's also been talk of having the Startup Life program ( http://startuplife.fi/ ) take interns from abroa

Finland is also an option and the market for good developers is hot right now. Drop me a line via Twitter - my username is in my profile - and I can do some intros if you decide to come here. Edit: more info: http://www.migri.fi&

One of the comments in the original article said that developers use MongoDB because they're too lazy to use RDBMS. I don't see anything wrong with that - laziness is a virtue among developers! Seriously though, we are using Mongo

@rmlewisuk Are you OK with us including this data and a link back to your site in our web app directory at https://starthq.com ? Edit: Also, you should try to collaborate with the TOSDR guys, they have a pretty active IRC channel

We launched https://starthq.com , not sure if it qualifies as large though as its currently at 2KLOC of JS for the front end code.

What are the sites where one can find SaaS coupon codes and offers? AppSumo, F6S, TNW Market - any others? We would like to aggregate them at https://starthq.com

You can use fibers. We are doing that via common-node ( https://github.com/olegp/common-node/ ) and are very happy with the choice at https://starthq.com

We've been using almost the same stack at StartHQ ( https://starthq.com ) with great success. Mongo and Angular make it easy for us to iterate quickly. Performance hasn't been an issue with up to 300 concurrent visitors
