No surprise here. @cryoshon has it right in that the debt load is freezing the system. The banks failed in 2008 because we reached the limit of how much debt the world can support (not counting all the fake debt those crooks sold in the f

Thanks for sharing. Very interesting presentation. As soon as he said the browser is the new OS he lost me, but I understand he's coming from the Internet Industry. I completely agree that we need to design secure application archit

I tend to agree. Instant messaging seems to be dying out in the workplace. I used to find it a highly effective mode of collaboration, especially in large enterprises. Small shops seem to leave it off the list. We cranked up Slack for m

I like the way they did it in Eve Online with the mining animations. The "bolt" animation should be plasma weapons, and "pew pew" seems a bit too cute and cuddly for that.

Valid points. The customer shouldn't care if it's two tin cans and a piece of string, but developers do, and that's why I watch HN. Frameworks are where the innovation is at, and Go is a relatively new language with few fra

Correct, and it's clear the machine does a little correction cycle after it lands. Very cool though. Now they need to work this into the pathfinding algorithms.

Exactly. This style just screams Windows 8 MS Surface design, and it's popping up all over. I think designers are having trouble blending "touchable" with "informative". The emphasis seems to be on touchable from

Not soon enough. My son lost out on a job opportunity because of a photo of him published in fb when he was in grade 9. It's just a massive invasion of privacy, and for what? The "make a buck off the internet" guys hit the

Remember when the browser was actually a thin client? Now it's got everything but the kitchen sink in it. It's funny how we just assume anything new will be in the browser. Innovation is happening at the native client now. Do

Bitcoin will go down in history as virtual place where a whole pile of virtual money went down the virtual tubes. These virtual currencies will never fly so long as currency speculation is legal. They are repeating all the same mistakes t

So, can anyone make an open hardware version of this chip? Have the patents run out? It's been 45 years, and I understand they only last 25 years. A side question would be which CPU architectures are openly available now that are ca

Let it die. Bitcoin was a huge mistake. Speculating on virtual currency is no different than speculating on "real" currency. It was subject to the same corruption that it was designed to avoid. I'm not surprised, and I ho

"Equilibrium real interest rate"??? What a load of horseshit. Interest rates are low because if they raise them the entire world goes broke. They dropped them down in order to sell more and more debt. Now all the debt is sold.

Me too. I try not to listen to the radio, read the newspaper, or watch the news on TV. I figure the big stuff will find it's way to me, and the rest is marketing bullshit. News is a commodity, created to sell advertising. Only the

I loved crunchbang. The installer was great. It got from zero to everything you needed for a development box in 15 minutes. Thanks for all your work!

This is great news, and I hope the world follows suit. Debt amnesty is indeed a time honored solution to the current crisis. When a person goes into debt they sell their future wages. When a government goes into debt they sell future tax

Yes, but blacklisting is not what I am thinking of. I mean the ability to exclude whole chunks from the crawler. Google would still crawl those sites, but the blacklist would exclude them from results.

Great story! Thanks for this. I'm glad it had a happy ending as so many of these situations do not. It takes courage and vision to admit you have a really big mess on your hands and need expert help. As for the clueless PM, I have me
