That seems quite the stretch. We don't know enough of the long term consequences of them in fish, or if there is any genetic damage. Or of chemicals concentrating as they move up the food chain, eventually to us. To me that is very dis

The Moscow subway is astonishing for the architecture. Some stations look more like the interior of the Hermitage than a subway. Marble, art, chandeliers! In that respect I think it's truly unique. If you don't know of this try

In that case I'd prefer 3840x2880. It's still missing 25% comparatively speaking. All the losses from browser header, footer, OS status bars, browser chrome or IDE widgets are at the top and bottom. Making that 16:9 letter box ski

Let's see. No it isn't. Not even close. A 4:3 aspect would give 1920x1440. You have 1920x1080. Where has the bottom quarter of the screen gone? It's not there. How can that possibly be better? I'd take 3:2 with hig

It was far better in the UK before the massive deregulation of gambling. It has gone much too far. Our poorest areas have high streets with 4 or 5 betting shops in spitting distance of each other. Addiction and problem gambling has snowba

If, as seems to be the case, Instagram is the popular destination to migrate to will Facebook be too bothered by a drop in Facebook numbers? Sure some will go elsewhere, and block enough FB tracking to disappear entirely. Instagram, of cour

In the scheme of things cabling is a relatively trivial point. Perhaps a better target to find fault with is lack of easy memory upgrade, or use of sealed rechargeables in mouse and especially keyboard. Apple are far from unique in claimi

Even allowing for the age of the piece this seems pretty partisan. Only one I'll pick out - RAID5. Who cares about RAID5 with current disk sizes? Should be using ZFS, probably under RAIDZ2 or 3, if you actually care about your data. Ho

Exactly as the US did to the UK in the late 1800s, and Japan + Korea to the US in the 1970s on. There is advantage to not being the incumbent. First you copy (badly) and soon enough you match quality and innovate. That you can do so without

We're still losing vast amounts of ancient tropical rainforest whilst we've started to increase temperate and mostly boreal forest (coniferous). It's not a fair trade and of no help to the species under threat.

That's OK so long as we can plant more palm oil. </s> I really wonder at what point we decide we've destroyed enough of the natural world. It looks like we're not going to stop at all. Which is rather depressing.

Funny that. Not exactly surprising. How many years will it take to debunk Friedman I wonder? Or at least to fall from fashion. It's a pity Bretton Woods only let the world try a watered down version of Keynes.
