If we wouldn’t do that for Russia, which I suggested years ago and was massively dragged for it on HN, then why would we do it for Italy? I don’t agree with poisoning DNS, but there are way worse things happening on the internet that we don

No, I'm saying you're derailing the conversation with your "empricism", congratulations. That's what you people do around here. If there are simply a few examples of the "danger" you people claim, then why

I personally wonder if people were arguing and complaining that America was moving left or failing back when racial integration was the big fight. I’m sure there were people arguing that letting non-whites drink from the same water fountain

There’s a company doing that in Hawaii, I think it’s called “shift energy”. I interviewed with them, it seemed like a great operation, but a bit hobbled by being a startup in Hawaii. I respect it though, I’d do the same.

I regret that you think that, but I’m not explaining to you why you’re wrong, it’s as pointless as you trying to convince me that I’m demonizing anyone with that comment.

Sometimes things get messy discussing important topics, we should err on the side of sunshine rather than darkness for these discussions. HN has a lot of powerful and wealthy people who have a responsibility to protect the system they relie

Nice steel manning, of course transgender people without bottom surgery don’t walk into nude spas. If you find a single example, great, find me the hundreds of examples you folks claim there are which threaten you. You’re not arguing honest

This will blow your mind: in Hawaiian culture, transgender people held a place of honor and respect. Hawaii is part of America (illegally overthrown), so there’s a cultural history of transgender people that you can point to here that is re

Are you kidding? There are so many VCs here who have the resources to push for fair treatment of immigrants and foreign visitors! HN is the perfect place to discuss this.

Eh, I just ignore those who don’t add to the conversation. If they add something useful, even being self absorbed, I consider it. Sometimes even an American has a nugget of wisdom we can learn from, believe it or not. I don’t really want to

Unfortunately, a lot of countries are doing a similar thing as these countries, there’s a lot of authoritarians taking over all over the world. I think people should talk not only about the history or events in one country, but also talk ab

Jesus H. Christ, people are taking the wrong idea from those types of stories! Those are cautionary tales of giving corporations too much power, and letting them take over the government. These stories are meant to show that when a sociopat

I gotta say, I don’t get that perspective. The content is one thing, but YouTube is super reliable for me, streaming or watching. I can easily stream in 4k 60FPS from OBS and YouTube has never had issues ingesting it, though I generally do

Same. I actually like that Apple locks down everything to their own devices, in general, because I believe (from my limited knowledge; I am no insider) it's more secure. Perhaps not, but I trust Apple to release products that are fairl

I would have thought the USA government wouldn’t shoot itself in the face, but look at the current stuff going on. I’m not sure they wouldn’t fuck over all the users of GPS at this point, including themselves.

I believe they could select the level of degradation with SA, you could even turn the non encrypted channel off IIRC. Luckily, it seems they stopped including the feature in newer satellites, so that’s good at least.

I care more about airplanes, ships, trucks, and things of that nature. People will be able to get along fine with no GPS, a large ship transiting the Panama Canal will NOT be fine without GPS.
