Some luck perhaps, but also a reputation (well deserved imo) of working very very hard for a very long time. His predilection for 4 hour long concerts was well known in the eighties.

It's right next to I-40, so if you happen to be driving from the east coast to the west coast on that highway (as I once did), it's hard to miss.

I got to meet Ed Yourdon several years ago (he came to interview me, amazingly). No one else at the company knew who he was.

I found myself thinking that yes, you should still learn to code, but no you probably shouldn’t bother to write blog posts about why you should still learn to code.

Define “invest.” Banks invest. That’s literally what they do. People deposit their money rather than put it under their mattress, and the banks reward them by giving extra money to them. Then the banks figure out a way to put that money so

A comment further down says the sale price was 3.5 billion dollars, revenue of the company is $600 million. If the profit margin is 10% (not unreasonable for a regulated utility) that works out to an interest rate of 1.7%. So basically a $3

Yeah, it's a deceptive headline. In the article it says "For those who have been with the online behemoth the longest, up to 50% of their total income is balanced on market outcomes." So if it goes to zero. Though presumably

There may be a reasonable qualitative argument to favor Velocity over Impact, but the pseudo-quantitative argument made in the article is not really useful. You could easily adjust the numbers chosen to support the exact opposite argument.
