FP had its little Joe-programmer renaissance ca. 2007 slowing in 2009. It's been a while since anything approaching a majority thought OO-or-bust for all purposes, perhaps 2004-ish.

The trouble with the micro-payments (micro, campaign-funding-wise) is that they are not vetted in the same way that larger payments are. Pardon my ignorance, but would it not be trivial for a foreign entity to take advantage of this and cre

I keep seeing these blogs that have two things in common: They look identical and the content tends to positively reek of the stereotyped self-important Valley attitude. Out of curiosity, I clicked the "SVBTLE" link at the bottom of this on

Don't use homebrew or macports or anything like that. If you're installing Erlang for development purposes (you'd be using a release otherwise, right?) use Erlang's answer to `rvm' etc., kerl: https://github.com/spawngrid/kerl Works fine

Ssshh, don't talk about Erlang/OTP too loud, they might realize how good it is ;)

It is mostly the name that is the valuable asset. People right now think to begin their search on Meetup. Their brand is extremely valuable, but I think somebody can beat them on price and by making it easier (very inexpensive or free) to b

There's a ripe market opportunity for a free or significantly cheaper alternative to Meetup, unless I'm unaware of a competitive one that already exists. $12/month is absurd for what amounts to a BB service with a handful of social networki

Fundamentally, Reddit is the exact same sort of website as Hacker News, but Hacker News seems to be operating fine. What are these unavoidable AWS-hosted services you're thinking of? I cannot think of any but I'm sure you know of several.

Away with this link-spam. It actually has no content, feature list directly copied from the github page. https://github.com/jsantell/dancer.js ( posted http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4214087 ) Similar post below that just copies st

Indeed, if you view humans as resources (HR!), it's a terrible waste of potential. One less cow in the meat grinder, if you will. I don't measure my value by the thickness of my wallet or the growth of my assets. And what of the open source

I was noting this yesterday in the DollarDollarJS thread ... presumably in the quest for "karma," flaming open-source projects has really gotten popular over the past eight months or so on this website (I think that flaming of startup ide

Well, that's the thing, it provides more functionality than many people need, and requires more code than should be needed for some small projects. Binding URLs to functions and dispatch strings is all I need for a great many small projects

That's fine, but there's a difference between a critique and a flame. There are an awful lot of flames in this thread. Also, as Hegel says, anything that exists is reasonable, and an "unreasonable" reason for not releasing code is still a v
