I try to do the same, now. From my perspective, a prerequisite is divorcing conversation from the concept of "winning."

I find myself really inspired by the work The Consilience Project and a few other people are putting out about sensemaking, consensus building, and maybe generally empathy. I've started to feel that it might be my answer to "The H

I went trail running in Georgia several years ago and came within a few inches of running into one on its web that blocked the whole trail. I know now from the article that they're harmless, but as a mild arachnophobe the experience wa

I think about this a lot from the point of view of economic fairness and wealth inequality. You have a higher probability of being rich if your ancestors "owned the land" first. Similarly, you have a higher probability of being ri

My SE suffers, too. I find myself having to charge it twice a day — overnight, and then a top up at work.

Newspapers were information and entertainment to many; the eyeballs coming for the latter subsidized the former. They lost the entertainment eyeballs -- now what happens to those who need reliable information? This article is decrying the o

I share this criticism. It's almost like you have to scream at people that although correlation doesn't imply _direct_ causation, it most certainly does imply some causal chain. Ruling out chance through significance and power, wh

I think this reasoning may be right, if expressed backward. "Visible light" is just that which life evolved to care most about, because it was what was available in the (shallowish) water.
