Laws like this really don't address anything then. Children will continue to find and circulate "dangerous content." As a mid-thirties millennial, I saw the transition. Kids shared paper pornography in the 90s, and had access

Sure but the post I was responding to starts with "Would you use the same justification for pirating movies? Or for stealing from large supermarkets?", that's what I was responding to. Also in this context the situation is am

Copying/sharing media is not the same as stealing from a store. We already had this debate like 30 years ago - "You wouldn't download a car!" Unless you really believe that borrowing a book from a friend deprives the a

I like this take. The situation involving a women under a Cruise was initiated by a hit-and-run driver throwing her directly into the path of the Cruise. Given what I've seen in San Francisco, if it weren't a Cruise behind that ca

I feel we're entering a 2nd great renaissance of media piracy and torrent sites. Fair streaming services were a great solution. But for a variety of reasons that all has slowly been corrupted and become obtrusive. I've recently ca

Valve has earned a lot of good will. But Steam is, in my opinion, by far the least impressive program they've released.

Steam consistently draws CPU resources. I make sure to disable it on startup. The storefront webview-wrapper also chugs hard and is much slower than just opening the site in a web browser. It updates every time it's launched. It always

I honestly feel Steam is also incredibly slow compared to just opening their site in a browser. All of these game launchers are just janky DRM and some of the worst software our industry has to offer.

I don't think it's that touchy of a subject. I feel most firms understand the a Pi should not be directly controlling machinery that can cause real harm. They shouldn't be replacing PLCs. But imagine use-cases like analytics

Yeah definitely the more auxiliary use-cases. Display and analytics, remote access and networking.

I know of a few robotics and industrial control companies that integrate RPis into their stacks. They definitely are a real industry tool. I think companies like these are where the limited supply goes.

Especially when youtube's early success was built on piracy. That continued for a long time even after Google's acquisition. Arguably still is a major contributor regardless of Content ID.

Insomniac is incredible. I have great appreciation for studios willing to maintain their own engine and consistently push technological boundaries. Same with Remedy.

According to the article this data was acquired by scraping data from a subset of compromised accounts.

I also don't understand why more companies don't also implement reasonable rate-limiting and abuse detection. A suite of hacked accounts should not be able to scrape millions of users worth of data.

I recommend having a separate account where important data is stored (Gmail, photos) and another for everything else (search, youtube, hangouts, etc.). I also still keep personal backups of all import data (see takeout.google.com).

This may just be my experience as a young person in San Francisco / Silicon Valley, but it's very common for office life and social life to be highly intertwined. I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing. Many of us moved

There's absolutely no ambiguity introduced in the PR's changes. And I don't think any grammar guide would prefer "he/she" for these particular uses.

This title is misleading. The actual PR is "docs: Use more appropriate language when referring to the user" and that's a fair description of these changes which clearly improve readability.

Someone even suggested a $1 limit in the thread discussing the potential overflow - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27045382 I'm still surprised this actually happened.

That's an awkward opinion to have on hackernews. Like, why write software when you can't touch it? Go engineer real things: buildings, bridges, cars!
