ICANN was supposed to be a multi stakeholder organization that would balance non US interests. In reality, it's entirely captured by registry interests and the result is former CEO capturing .ORG and turning into a for profit. ICANN is

ICANN has no spine and is captured, so it probably will happen. And now with .ORG doing this, we're going to see .COM next.

This is the internet. We don't forget things like this. People's names have been attached to it, like Andrew Sullivan (CEO) and Richard Barnes (board member defending it). We know exactly who fucked over everyone here, they admit

Don't worry, they have your best interest at heart. With this extra money, we can fund our certificate mission for our own personal gain forever. It's very good for everyone.

It's been corrupt for a long time and beholden to registry interests. The fox is watching the hen house and they don't even hide it.

VeriSign wants price caps removed like .ORG managed. They are salivating. Their fingerprints were all over removing price caps for .ORG. Those same lobbyists are still involved now at ICANN in the groups, subverting the public interest. I w

It feels like Zapier and IFTTT are the successors to Pipes, but I never quite got the same feeling from them (maybe I haven't checked Zapier in a while). But Pipes was ahead of its time and I'm still not sure of anything that real

Already owned by PIR (which runs .ORG and is being sold to Ethos Capital). Sorry, it's a group domain fucking. You're welcome - Ethos Capital, probably.

PIR is already a rent-seeking organization designed to fund Internet Society. They don't actually handle the registry at all. It's outsourced, they put it out to bid. If you look at financials, they are paying <$2/domain.

Why did it happen entirely behind closed doors? No way they got this deal together just after price caps were removed. Was this orchestrated beforehand? Domain registrations for Ethos Capital pre-date the change and timing coincides with pr

I saw this logic coming from a lot of people trying to push these changes through. They've been good so far, we should just trust them. They stick their heads in the sand and pretend we don't need rules because organizations, peop

Would it matter? You're already locked into years, maybe decades, of brand building. You'd still need to redirect your old .org indefinitely. .ORG should be properly managed and regulated, we shouldn't need to attempt to rebu

Why are cops getting special privilege that normal citizens aren't? I'm not a fan of the criminal justice and reform system either. But police should be held to a higher standard, not lower one.
