Other editors have kind of standardized it to associate a language to a command to run and communicate trough the stdout/stdin. Why do vscode need to be more complicated? (even this association could be done with a local DB similar to

I've implemented a LSP server (for Slint - https://slint.dev ) and I agree with this article. The paradox is that it was meant to avoid to write language support for each editor. Yet, if you want to support vscode you must c

40MB was the criteria coming from the article. But it's much smaller than that. I don't have the exact number in mind. I'd say much less than 20MB.

There must be some confusion. This is not a web framework, it is a compiled framework with API for several programming languages (including C++) and no HTML/CSS.

With Slint [ https://slint.dev ], we're also trying to make a desktop GUI toolkit that'd work in typescript. So I think there is indeed an opportunity.

Unsafe is still needed in some cases to access low-level APIs or to talk to the hardware. It can still be safe because that is limited in scope, and still makes the whole product easier to review.

Why do you want to make your desktop application "web-based", instead of using a framework that renders without the need of a browser?

(2023) Not surprising that tauri is slightly behind since it uses a webview. I'm curious why Slint was not included in the benchmark.

As the author of both Slint and qmetaobject-rs, I wonder if you checked out Slint[1] and what were the reason you didn't pick it. [1] https://slint.rs

Someone has to first write bindings to the library using said FFI. This is not something most JavaScript dev can do. This has to be written by someone who knows C++ and JavaScript, and be good at both to understand all the details. (How the

As others have pointed out, Slint is inspired from the good parts of QML. The Equivalent to QAbstractItemModel is the slint::Model class[1]. That API is actually easier to use as it simple indices instead of the concept of QModelIndex/
