Germany today runs on 70% renewables and is looking to triple its solar generation until 2030. Coal is massively down since the Ukraine war made it necessary. The energy transition is happening and faster than anticipated.

I think the article is wrong to say that Apple said using N3 over N5 gave 30% boost. The said M3 performance cores are 30% faster than M1 performance cores. Some part of this speed-up comes from the smaller node.

By picking gas as the backup solution and solar (+ some wind) as the main source of electricity, Europe has picked the most likely overall winners of the energy transition. Many countries in Europe are rapidly approaching 100% solar electri

It is a major failure of them not to put pressure on everyone else by doubling memory. The LLM models would massively benefit. They could buy 32GB for probably less than 100 USD as a manufacturer.

I don't know. At some point you have to draw a line. For me Elon has said enough problematic things that it is out of the question to buy a Tesla.

Just because you can't fanthom a legitimate case for needing a small codec lib doesn't mean there isn't one. Typical engineering myopia.

And when will they finally allow to change formula language to be independent of display language? In German locales the parameter separator is ; rather than , which makes copying code from others a nightmare.

Okay, you wrote 'a'. Mostly, moderators and answers feel like disjoint sets because the majority of answers come from the long tail of people (at least it feels to me). But likely it is similar like with Wikipedia where the modera

The issue is that power tripping mods prevent many questions from becoming great ones. And I disagree that questions need to have one factual answer. Great questions often have many highly ranked answers showing different ways to solve issu

It just depends on the questions. I have gone from asking 2 or 3 questions per months (and reading 100s per months) to using ChatGPT for all of it. Because it gets the questions better and the response is immediate.

If you look back just 2 years we had the grinds build those specialized models for QA, NER, Sentiment, Classification etc. and all their deep investment was rug-pulled by GPT-3 and then GPT-4. You say that training datasets will win, but th

Of course we align motors heavily by making sure they don't explode, don't excessively pollute, don't go over certain specs such as max speeds. If we wouldn't do those things, they would be much too dangerous.

I also think this will happen. Graphics cards with humongous RAM, etc. But I don't see how that changes the advantages that companies such as OpenAI have. Consumers will have access to GPT4-level LLMs, OpenAI will have a next gen offer

I am wondering who will be the first to raise RAM capacity of their hardware offerings dramatically to win the LLM crowd. Seems like the way to win market share.
