It reminds me how we were told in the 2000' there will soon be no quality music anymore because of bittorrent. If journalism business model is not working anymore, it's journalists' fault, not readers' one : they are the

I see, thanks. I used vanilla `strip` on my binary and it did not produce any size gain (so the strip flag of go compiler is plenty enough). Indeed, given how browsers already handle gunziping resources, it's probably best to rely on i

This would be cool: shared objects over internet. Interesting direction to explore.

Yeah indeed, and if web development prefigure anything for wasm, we can expect apps to quickly have a lot of dependencies built in. I guess we'll get used again to "please wait, loading" screens :)

I didn't know go compiler allowed to build without those, thanks. I've just tried on a go binary that was 2.4MO. After building it with `go build -ldflags=-s .`, it's 1.6MO. After stripping with upx, it's 480ko (and stil

Will the binaries be compiled for size optimization, or will they be the same size as usual golang bins? Go binaries, being static and embedding the whole go runtime, tend to be quite big. Now, I don't care about it because 5 or 10MO o

Well, you're describing exactly how to do it with bind9 :) What make you say Unbound is better?

If you want to do it on your local linux system, it's pretty easy: you just need to install bind9 and use `nameserver 127.0.0.1` in your /etc/resolv.conf Bind9 has a poor reputation because of how difficult it is to use it to

Agreed, I initially felt good about coinhive too. I just wanted it to allow to rate limit cpu consumption, it would have been a great alternative to advertisement. Maybe someone will come later with a idea to make this while preventing abus

Actually, the world have inherited something well known from compagnons : the word "chef d'oeuvre". It's translated as "masterwork" in this article, but it's something a bit more specific for compagnons :

Great tool, thanks for this. I've been massively annoyed with the obsession of making the code look exactly the same in every of its parts. Ten years ago, I could tell which of my coworkers wrote a piece of code based on its style only

Indeed, I don't think it's a deal breaker as well. There is a huge potential for scams, here, though (people buying invalid tokens for near than nothing on ethereum classic, then luring unawared people to buy them at full price mi

The thing I love the most about Stellar is how its founders want it to become "the SMTP of payment". It's kind of amazing we still haven't such kind of protocol widely available, and have to rely on private companies lik

That's a good point, there's indeed a problem with mafia-like behavior in Rroma groups. Don't just assume they all rely on begging, though, we see a lot of them in seasonal agriculture, and they make good money there. Regardi

What you describe is pure fascism. And for the elders, maybe we should build camps to hold them? I hear a lot about how this or that part of the population "doesn't integrate". What I never hear about is why it's so impo

This sounds plausible, but I have really no idea of why it works :) I found it by doing a mistype (like it often happens in vim), and didn't see it mentioned in any article that would try to get to the bottom of it yet.

yep, it does a 'A' in normal mode, after leaving the insert mode (thanks to alt). The different thing is that you do it (alt+shift+a) in insert mode. So the equivalent would be `ESC, A`.

On linux, I don't use ESC at all anymore, I just press alt + [a normal mode key], while in insert mode. Like `alt + j`, which will leave insert mode and move one line down. Some alt based sequences are really useful: * alt + e, a : lea
