I disagree, as noted further up the thread. Preventing downvotes doesn't remove the dissenting opinion. In fact, it allows and encourages it. Downvotes allow groupthink to silence disagreement. If you disagree with something, instead of

+1 (Insightful) This is why democracy + free speech (in theory, at least) works. No matter how unpopular, a voice cannot be silenced. If you don't like a person's viewpoints, you can't shut them down by downvoting them; you can only upvot

I don't get either one. The announcement just seems redundant. Everybody already knows that there is at least 1 so-and-so. In fact, everybody already knows that there is more than one. I can't see how the announcement adds knowledge.

Cool. >The team has been working on today's Winamp 5.5 release for about a year, with iTunes firmly in its crosshairs. As long as they don't mess with the Winamp 2.0 look-n-feel, I'm happy. I've been using that, with the same skin, for

Your last clue should've been the biggest. If you read the article through to the part about dressing poor people up as clowns and seeing how many you could shove into a Maybach as entertainment at rich kids' birthday parties and still tho

And easier to spell, to boot. Many of these names would be hard to guess how it is spelled; I know if I heard of reddit by word of mouth and didn't have it spelled out for me, I'd be looking at readit.com or read-it.com wondering wtf was s

For whatever reason I can't edit my comment above (is there a time limit?), but if anybody changes the above linked site so a big pic covers the 'edit' and 'history' buttons, or it redirects to another site, or whatever, you can get to the

Mmm, I didn't know the history button was there, and it only looks like it saves so many revisions. No biggie tho, I rebuilt it. Not sure why you can edit anybody's site. Could be fun in some ways I guess. Mental note for future, tho: K

I wish I had known about Octopart before reading this essay. I needed a part a couple weeks ago that I had no idea what the technical term for it was, my best guesses lead to things that were totally wrong, and the company that made it was

So do I give an upvote if I like the ad, if I approve of it, or if I'm actually likely to follow up on it with a purchase? An ad could easily be one of those and not the other two, and I don't want to send mixed messages to advertisers. O

You can. Go to your preferences, click on 'friends', and add the nicknames of all the posters you like. Then go to friends.reddit.com, and you'll only see submissions from those people. This feature came out about a half a year ago, IIRC
