I don't understand how people can sit in these comment sections pretend AI isn't affecting productivity and the job market. Do we all just imagine the insane level of AI usage is only affecting high school students, and somehow do

With the advent of LLMs, I think it's more and more likely we'll see core C projects converted to Rust. People even like converting stuff to Rust for their own amusement.

Who wants to play sand-in-my-eyeballs roulette? If you win you don't have to wear glasses anymore, and if you lose it will always feel like there's sand in your eyeballs.

I'm a candidate for LASIK. The upside would be I don't have to wear glasses. But that's just not that big of an upside given the risks.

It's good but not the best free model. I find Chatterbox to be more realistic with no robot-sounding and better (though not perfect) intonation.

All he had to do was remove the LIDAR and wait 15-20 years for the tech to catch up. I'm sure Tesla owners don't mind waiting. They're used to it by now.

Google AI studio sitting doing nothing (not even a chat loaded) was eating 8 GB and lots of CPU.

I never said jj was awesome. I've never used it. I'm already adept at git, enough to have opinions on its advanced features, and the knowledge to avoid them, so I'm not sure if I'd gain all that much from jj.

Hooks, submodules, and LFS all have huge followings of haters. I think just a week ago there was a big post on HN about how awful LFS is.

I'm waiting for DeltaDB. Sounds game-changing to me. jj seems more like a facade for people who aren't good at git.

I'm pretty sure everyone knew it was xAI last week. It's a great model. I'll never pay to use it, but I like it enough while it's free. > I miss the days where we just liked technology for advancement's sake. I t

Most session hijacking is via JavaScript, so even malware-extractable browser-TPM would help a lot!

It depends how hard it is. I installed OpenMediaVault on my Pi and it's worked great ever since. I don't think any other option would have resulted in less work for me. As far as solar goes, where I live it's not worth gettin

I hope it catches on! Though they suggest storing the signing keys in TPM which is ideal, even storing them locally in the browser in an unextractable manner would be enough to prevent session hijacking.

The nice thing about SQLModel is they're still Pydantic models so you can use them with custom data mappers like parquet, csv, json, etc. I think you make a good point about keeping the data model pure so you're not dependent on a

Do you advise then use Pydantic for data mapping to/from raw SQL, to avoid using a full ORM? My thinking is you're almost at an ORM with that method with tools like SQLModel that I'm unsure what the benefit is to the plain Py

I'm talking knowing what the shape of the response and shape of the data going in ahead of time and being consistent. SQL is like a black box in and out. I mainly use Python. For that, it's nice to have things like Dataclasses for

How do you convert your type-safe native objects to and from the database in a reusable way? If you do anything in a reusable way, you're 95% of the way to an ORM. Or do you just accept that you get back random dictionaries from the da
