I work in the SVF but live in Ventura County. Sadly it's the same story for the Frys in Oxnard... LA really needs a Microcenter :-)

Had the good fortune to work with Paul briefly. He's not only smart, but he's a heck of a nice guy.

I deployed Atlast into a consumer media device in the mid-90's. Essentially I used it as a scripting language for writing user facing setup GUI dialogs. The justification was that the GUI screens were art-directed by an offsite team an

Totally agree with you. While I've been away from QNX for a long time, I did enjoy this API and system design. When I saw it go EOL, I made an appeal for them to open source it. Never heard a peep.

I developed one title for CDi while working at a media/marketing company in the early 90's. We had goals of putting the CDi machine in a kiosk with a touch-screen so customers could learn about products without a salesperson hassl

There were was a PC modem board that had the Hobbit in it. I can't seem to find any references to it online though.

Can you elaborate on your thoughts here? If you just wanted to target the Dis VM using Go as the starting point, I believe you could call most everything in the standard libraries.

I agree 100%. I do wonder if the Dis VM is a close enough match for Go as a target. Or perhaps we could start with a simple Go to Limbo translation transpiler. Want to see if it's possible?

Thanks for the information... I've had an interest in Smalltalk for a long time, but never really followed up b/c of the radical change in mindset (I've been a "CLI guy" for my entire career). Having qualified my mi

Not me, but I tried very hard to put it in a device that's deployed in > 2 million field locations. I did manage to get Russ Cox' libtask in the product though.

Already amused by the comments based only on the title but not on the content: "Real Commenters don't read the contents".

I've grown curious about Bak's implementation of Smalltalk (OOVM A/S) that was mentioned in this article. Has anyone here had a chance to tinker with it?

Oh my god... how have I never seen ranger before? Back in my MS-DOS development days, I used an old program called LIST.COM. Ranger feels lighter than MC. I love it. Thanks for sharing!

The ucontext stuff is nice but why was it deprecated? It's generally not a problem on x86, but in my experience for other platforms, it gets messy quickly. It would be nice if a replacement or a "de-deprecated" was around.

That's what I was told, but I guess I was suffering from "learn-the-new-thing-itis" so I invested in Lua... I've been meaning to give Tcl a fair shake though so this Docker API might be a good motivator.

There were some visual aspects to Tcl that always bothered me despite smart people telling me that it has fairly well thought out structure. I've gravitated towards Lua (because I was easily able to integrate C libs there), but been pu

Nice article. As an unsafe counter-point, a few years ago I came home to my (then) 16 year-old son in the backyard tending to a pit he'd dug, full of a blazing stack of sticks that he was stoking with my leaf blower... sparks flying ev
