Create some open source projects in the field you are interested in! This is a great way to demonstrate that you know what you're doing, especially if others are using your project and collaborating with you. When I interview people I

Have you considered a different company? I worked at a large company for a few years building internal tools and I wanted to kill myself. I couldn't imagine working there for the rest of my life. But I enjoyed writing code in my free t

I once wrote an OAuth client library for a language that didn't have one and learned so much. Now any time I do anything OAuth related I feel that I have a better understanding.

My girlfriend has the name Taryn and Siri really struggles with it, usually correcting it to Karen or Terell (both names in my address book). Alexa does better but probably because it doesn't know about the other names.

I totally agree. You can fight with alignment all day and it's not worth it in my opinion. Just have it indented on a new line and call it a day.

I've always found the cause to be extensions as well. Usually a version conflict or something. It's so difficult to debug though. Always takes a while just to get everything you need to finally dig in.

Many libraries that use ES6 features distribute the transpiled version through npm or GitHub. If they don't, you can just transpile the library using Webpack then use that. Or you could use codemods to update your code base in an autom

This reminds me of a tool AutoHotkey had that let you rip existing UIs. It would read the window and rebuild the UI with the exact layout. SmartGUI I think.

I switched to Google Code for the same reason. The fact that I had to ask someone before I could create a new repo was insane. It took days to get a new project up and running on SF. Google Code was a little bit nicer but they just let it f

I've built a number of interfaces for applications running on Raspberry Pis using Electron, and it's been great. Space or performance hasn't been an issue. The kiosk mode in Electron is perfect.

You'd be surprised by how many C/C++ programmers there are out there! I've already been surprised by the number of contributions. But yeah, using C wasn't a choice, it was the only option. Luckily we already have all pla

Sikuli is awesome, I've used it a bunch. But developing and distributing cross platform commercial applications with it is a mess. Also interacting with other languages, to make a GUI for example, isn't fun.

Yeah AutoHotkey is amazing. I've written many successful apps in AHK. Like this one: https://github.com/octalmage/mDesktop With RobotJS and nw.js I've been able to port many of my apps to JavaScript, and ulti

There's been many attempts over the past 5 years and IronAHK got the closest, but yeah both languages rely 100% on Windows specific APIs. I hope later on to write an AHK to JavaScript compiler/interpreter. This would make the lang

I grew up on AutoHotkey but yeah, the syntax is very strange. It's actually based on AutoIt v2. The closest language (syntax wise) is Assembly, and that's silly. AutoHotkey is avalible, but only on Windows. I don't think I wo

I agree completely. I created mDesktop in 2007 because none of the solutions out there worked for me. They were either bloated and slow, or missing basic functionality. A program that is always running on your computer need to have almost z
