Nope, it was solved with Visual Basic in 1991. And with Nextstep in 1989. And with... I really dislike people comparing GenAI with compilers. Compilers largely do mechanic transformations, they do almost 0 logic changes (and if they do, the

It's similar with every technology, there's a reason we have sigmoids. In 1960 they were planning nuclear powered cars and nuclear mortars.

The "future" is a really long time. I'll take the other side of your bet for the next 10 years but I won't take it for the next 30 years. In that spirit, I want my fusion reactor and my flying car.

Yup, just like the post-copyright era followed the dawn of the internet and the emergence of Napster.

Japan didn't really need to win the war directly, it just needed to put enough boots on the ground to topple the USSR by helping Germany. The Soviets couldn't afford to send a few army groups to East Asia, especially not in 1941 o

After reading and watching things by quite a few historians, one of the points that sticks out is: most things in history were not inevitable. Someone had to do them and other people had to help them or at least not oppose them. A lot of hi

It's a dead end that allows me to have HiDPI (aka a 4k display) on Ubuntu 24.04 and use the VMWare GUI and OnlyOffice. Wayland was launched 18 years ago and it still can't handle mainstream apps in common scenarios.

The problem is, this looks so much like a rerun of post WW1 America. Tariffs (check - Smoot Hawley), American isolationism (check - America First), I guess we won't be far from the economic crisis (not checked yet - Great Depression).

Now? No. But West Germany alone had 5000 main battle tanks in 1989. Demographics have changed, the economy has changed, but Europe could definitely project force all over the area about 1000-1500km in its vicinity if it really wanted to. Bu
