True, but we are not talking about a two man company or a historic trust fund in southern France. We talk about an US shareholder company which leadership (do not be nitpicky) can be sued for by shareholders by not doing the best for their

Which is "source open". But we also need "open source" (which includes and OSI license), so we can package independent of Microsoft. There the critic about closing their ecosystem comes from.

In conservative IT businesses like hospitals this date is a deal breaker: No more security updates. In consequence IT will switch it off immediately. Guess why edge has an IE Mode.

The ZigBee alliance next gen protocol is what is nowadays branded as Matter. So it is certification but also improvements on the stack. Which make sense to simplify things.

IMHO: click bait. Half of the bullet point you find in 75% of all languages (eg int overflow, nullability, race conditions) or are ideas which are a security scientist dream of (eg named arguments). There is barely something specific to Jav

Outside of the SV bubble actually none. When you look from a conservative angle (static typing, developer availability, productivity, tool support, library support, performance, etc) it goes quickly down to Java and .NET. The dynamic interp

I am a big fanboy actually. The wording is a bit screwed. The "free" was as in (perceived) free/open/... software.

Java, like .NET, are just solid application platforms which are statically typed and their performance is good. Java has a history in big systems for soon 30 years. Rust, Python and Go are just not there yet. Rust is too low level, Python i

I think they understand open source (and show it by many projects) but like you said, it is not their core philosophy. They are a proprietary software and cloud vendor super house. They are very successful like that. Open Source is 3-4 leve

It is not the working hours (since this does not scale) but about putting work before anything else (little to no vacation, working in the middle of the night, flying to Asia with a day notice, making brutal decisions, ...)

Nope it is not. It should be terminal thing in general. On a much more abstract way, Microsoft tries something similar by embedding apps (as in Excel) to be hosted in Teams (aka chat).

I think many devs are really sick of writing 200 hours on 50 files with 20 tools for achieving 2 input boxes. There is a wish for simplicity in UI building no framework can offer (including the terminal ones).

A big caveat of Terminal.Gui is that it currently only work full screen. Which is not for everyone. I find myself exactly split between spectre.console and terminal.gui for that reason. There is an issue on topic in Terminal.Gui.

That is indeed a problem every once in a while. These people develop a framework and 3 languages. They do not built large systems. But there are other groups at Microsoft which keep them on track with their real needs.
