Author of the post here. I agree. But that has always been the case. My best understanding is that AWS focuses on system correctness and leaves experience to the ecosystem.

I totally agree. Docker on ECS, with VPC for network and instance isolation, an ELB for load balancing and a Kinesis for log streaming is working extremely well. Docker is feeling really great here as common tooling between a development sy

Hey, one of the authors of Convox here... Convox is a private app deployment platform that runs in your own AWS account. Instead of paying to use a multi-tenant, black box PaaS, you can have your own for a fraction of the price. Convox is a

In the Container-as-a-Service there's also EC2 Container Service (ECS). AWS just did a nice technical deep dive on how their orchestration works: http://www.allthingsdistributed.com/2015/07/under-the-hood-o...

This is at odds with the simplicity, but there's no question that an artifact of the enhanced version is important for publishing a slide deck. Quick tests with the Chrome "Print to PDF" and a "convert to PDF" extension failed miserably...

My anecdotal response... I read the post, and decided I finally needed to see what the big deal about this video is. I did feel your reaction -- that he won't be hurt if I don't pay for it at this point -- and actually did search for the vi

`envdir` [1] is a common pattern for maintaining environment with a directory of key/value files. If you use `foreman` [2] to manage application process formations, it will source a '.env' file before running. You could call either pattern

The "shit work" essay was picked up by another writer I deeply respect, John Gruber, who quoted it and put it in the slug: http://daringfireball.net/linked/2011/11/03/shit-work So I'd say it did benefit. "Shit work" is an evocative image

RVM is hardly development ready, imho. Every week I run into problems/confusion with the environment it creates and expects. I would never put it anywhere near production.

Sublime Text 2 is hot. It's already gotten some Lion updates like Lion scroll bars and full screen support. It's cross platform (Windows, Linux and Mac), but still feels excellent on OS X. http://www.sublimetext.com/2

To me this sounds like the work of meth addicts (I have another post on the thread about this), but I do share your general suspicions. All of a sudden AirBnB seems like a tough brand to keep clean -- at any time a host or guest (or frankly

I too would guess the guests were meth addicts. I had the unfortunate experience of moving in with some tweakers and some of these behaviors gave me flashbacks. It's a hell of a drug -- my roommate was once a normal young professional, but
