Also as a front end developer (who does UX / design), I think I can get about 80% in most situations, but the additional 20% is what makes sites like airbnb stand out so much. In those cases, I'm happy to hire someone and code it myself, af

This might not be a terrible thing... maybe domain names shouldn't be centrally controlled in the way they are today. I for one would love to see a totally new domain name system, in the same way BitTorrent radically changed how we look at

Yeah, you have to set it up locally, but again, it's worth it.

I recently built a site for finding vineyards, and used GeoDjango with Postgres+PostGIS. Setting up was a small PITA, but a bounding box query looks like this: footprint = Polygon(((ullon, ullat), (lrlon, ullat), (lrlon, lrlat), (ullon,

You can get evaluation copies of windows to run IE in for debugging free from Microsoft. My big complaint is that I don't want to run a VM for every browser. It appears as if the IE exe's made by Xenocode still work. I don't have a link for

I bought the Looxcie, and reviewed it here: http://igargoyle.com/archives/2010/09/looxcie_review.html Overall, it's a compelling product, but the Android app to connect to the camera feels like a beta.

Are good artists prohibited from drawing in courtrooms? I'm not familiar with the rules, so I'm curious if a photo realistic artist could draw the scene.

If you think that's good, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol3qQ4CEUTo (AVES Game Engine). They benchmarked Canvas, and found that it was faster _not_ to use it for their engine.
