My initial reaction was to disagree with your suggestion: Your method would train people to predict how well a comment is going to be received and to vote based on that. I disagreed, because I don't want to read comments rated by the hive m

Out of the standalone systems, I prefer Wordpress. It is powerful and simple, but it should (ideally) be run on a separate server for security reasons. We wont be using Wordpress for Freeversation.com; We plan on integrating a Django bloggi

You submitted the wrong link. The article has nothing to do with The New York Times. All the same, Twitter will circumvent the NYTimes paywall. I wrote a blog post about that, which you may submit to HN. http://natanyellin.com/2011/03/22

Your question is too vague. Please provide concrete details, or answers will be abstract and useless as well.

Thanks for the explanation. I suspect most people downvoted you because they didn't understand your motivation. I particularly liked your comment about finding formulas for social interactions. Have you tried looking for work at a social st

As of now, users do not have persistent identities. Depending on how Freeversation develops, we may eventually let users opt-in for such aliases.

Cool. I think meeting new people (not necessarily for dating) is one area that social networks still haven't perfected. I predict that interest-based social networks will gain popularity as people grow tired of their junk-ridden Facebook fe

We're planning on adding some moderation options, but we also trust our users. You get to decide who to invite to a conversation, so presumably you won't invite someone who is going to make a joke out of a serious discussion. If people don'

Google Circles was supposed to do this, but it turned out that the entire product was a misunderstanding. A better way to maintain private circles is through closed Facebook groups. If you want to go one step farther and talk freely/anonymo

I founded a startup with dsebrow and jsebrow to try and address this issue. We let users have private and anonymous conversations with their friends and colleagues, with a twist: you can see who is part of a conversation, but you can't see

In case you missed it, the confusion resulted from an old Google page that explains how social search works. See http://www.google.com/s2/u/0/search/social#socialcircle and http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2319412

Is there any way to see the justification for killing a comment? I trust HN's moderators, but it makes me uneasy to realize that there is a whole collection of censored comments that I didn't see until now, because I had showdead disabled.
