OK. My old complaints against package.el were as follows: 1. Packages need to be updated manually by maintainers. I can't use package.el to install the master branch of my favorite project on GitHub, or an old snippet on EmacsWiki. 2. Marm

It isn't an official part of Emacs, but no Emacs user should go without installing el-get, the meta-package-manager for Emacs. https://github.com/dimitri/el-get El-get can install and update elisp from git, svn, http, and EmacsWiki. (It

It's interesting to note that the first automated simulator of real-world processes was the water-powered MONIAC, built only 62 years ago. (MIT Whirlwind, the first digital simulator, was finished two years later.) Articles like this make m

I'm downvoting you for saying I think it's a stretch to call this a mistake If it wasn't on purpose, it was a mistake. Period. It might be inexcusable, as you later pointed out, but it was still unintentional. Everyone likes to hate on Fa

Gosh, this needs an explanation: Pentadactyl is a vim-like environment for Firefox. Other extensions add vim bindings to Firefox. Pentadactyl lets you customize Firefox yourself, the same way you would customize vim. http://dactyl.sourcefo

I mostly use Org for taking notes on classes and projects. I don't (yet) use Org for events. Does this answer your question: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/282143/org.png (That is a fullscreen Emacs with 3 Org buffers and a Deft search.)

It isn't all or nothing. You can open all your old files in org-mode and slowly start taking advantage of org-mode. It's all text. No conversion necessary.

That software already exists and is called org-mode :) Some reasons to use org-mode: * Org-mode is part of Emacs, so you can extend it in Lisp. If you so desired, you could record your weight each morning by sending yourself an email and sc

Call me old fashioned, but I think notes of different topics shouldn't mingle with one another, and dumping all your notes in one file is a recipe for creeping disorder. I use Deft for listing note files and performing full-text searches to

If anyone is struggling to stay on top of notetaking or organizing their life digitally, I highly recommend org-mode and deft-mode. One day I will blog about what org-mode has done for my life, but for now just accept my word: I have typed

You might be able to check what the Googlebot executes by adding javascript to your site and checking the thumbnail. EDIT: Removed comment about the bot's user-agent. The article links to a Google FAQ which answers the question.
