In the 90s I was in the vanguard of “paper” MCSEs - I knew this computer networking stuff was interesting, but had no idea where to start. Back then, the core exams were all NT 4.0 related, which clearly is mostly irrelevant now, but the el

I’m getting downvoted, but this is the stance of the company behind a popular AGPL library mentioned in this comments page based on emails I received from them after asking the same question.

That’s the difference about the AGPL - you have to open source the things that call it too. Putting it in a microservice is literally the thing that AGPL was written to prevent you from doing to work around it

Interesting. In .NET Core 2.1, they decided just 30 calls was enough to recompile from the fast “tier 0” JIT code to the fully optimized “tier 1” JITed code. https://github.com/dotnet/coreclr/blob/master/

I think a big part of it is existing dev/team familiarity, and it’s a stongly-typed language that is also super fast and is first-class with gRPC. Our Go and .NET services interact really well, so the diversity has been a net positive

We use .NET Core at Namely and we are generally super happy with it. About half of our new services are in C# with .NET core using protobufs/gRPC in Linux Docker containers on Kubernetes talking to Postgres, Redis, and Kafka; the othe

I understand where the author is coming from, and for purposes of aggregation or filtering, they are correct; it’s often better to do those things in SQL. There are two problems, though. CPU and IOs on your DB server are likely your org

We're using .NET Core 2.1 in prod on Linux Docker containers. One of our production services that gets 2-3 requests per second on average (not a ton of traffic, but a legit prod workload) uses between 78 and 90 MB of RAM.

Will be nice when JS gets the Elvis operator and you’ll be able to do ‘if (typeof user?.name === “string”)’ which will have the added value of type narrowing/interaction with ‘never’ if name is expected to be something else.

Not really. It's direct proof that the language is good/fast enough that the people creating it chose it for themselves. The flow team, for example, wrote their language in ocaml.

In a word, "correctly". The result of an expression with + or isNaN() will be of whatever type the JS spec says it should be. This is one of the less frequently touted, but more useful aspects of TypeScript - the lib.d.ts file act
