I've always wondered what it would be like to "live" in ALGOL 68 for a while, because of its ambition and idiosyncrasy. With a modern perspective, what would I be surprised to actually have, and what would I be surprised to m

There's that old chestnut about how the x86 instruction format -- at least up to the 486 -- is easily hand-assembled in octal [1], and that this may be have been the legacy of a design decision made for the Datapoint 2200. [2] [1] htt

If you're going "wait, no Apple platform has first-party CUDA support!", note that this set of patches also adds support for "Linux [platforms] with CUDA 12 and SM 7.0 (Volta) and up". https://ml-explore.

I understand Chollet is transparent that the "branding" of the ARC-AGI-n suites is meant to be suggestive of its purpose, than substantial. However, it does rub me the wrong way - as someone who's cynical of how branding can

Ironically, much of the ascent of America after WWII had to do with being the only intact industrial power, which we then plowed into science and technology research. It’s a pity we don’t recognize that in our historical narratives - rather

That's a useful comparison since it gives some insight to some important differences: part of the difference might be an order of magnitude increase in clock speed (say from 15 MHz to 133+ MHz); another might be an increase in I/O

Note that this is only for male DB-19s (i.e. for peripherals). Alas, you'll still have to hoard your battery-bombed vintage motherboards for female DB-19s. (Or hopefully use a physically different but electrically compatible connector.

I'm surprised HD20 support is listed as "not applicable" for SE, II, etc: I think all models listed except for II have HD20 boot support in ROM. I use an HD20 emulator with my physical Mac SE. It's one of the most conven

One way to add devices that doesn't require ROM or software modification, but _does_ require modifying the emulator: create a virtual memory-mapped device off 68K bus, and write a driver/CDEV to drive it. The SE and Macintosh II h
