Showing people who degenerate culture why that is is empathy. On a related note my generation confuses kindness with empathy way, way too often, it's a terrible millennial habit. Anyone familiar with boomer memes knows being flippant

Damn, thought I laid it out quite nicely in short form. It's a good thing in general to have a society that cares about whether a pregnant women is putting their baby at risk - and you simply can't have that without false positiv

The law as far as I know is concerned with derivation not exact copy. It’s easy for these models to produce very close images to the source material with the right short input.

If only society cared less about preventing avoidable birth defects, you’d be able to buy drugs without such immense burden.

Not a good argument, because this type of AI is basically exactly a compression algorithm - it’s the most efficient way we know to compress 2 billion image/text pairs down such that it can recreate the average of all the inputs retaini

Ok well that’s a different scenario. I mean I agree some things are dumbed down way too much. I’m just saying there’s a decent reason for some of it. A huge audience on YouTube are children, teens.

You’re baking in the assumption that goofy hat is 100% correlated with bad content, but I’d say 30% of my YouTube subscriptions do the goofy hat thing (usually just having somewhat baity thumbnails / titles) yet deliver great content.

I find the granular reactive paradigm of Solid to be both harder to build composable pieces with, and harder to debug in a few ways. Having a render function that re-runs on updates where you can set a debugger or log is a massive thing. Sv

Lots of evidence. It’s easy to search for profitability of housing and it’s not high there. There’s a massive difference between near market or inflation-level returns and whatever’s been happening in the US.

I agree with some of what you said. Except: It’s hard to profit from a home in Tokyo outside of being a developer. That’s a good thing. But you’re implying you can have your cake (affordable housing) and eat it too (profitable housing). Not

One thing that’s not clear. The tweet you show claims you are “appointed” to a position by a human rights org in India. But your denials all say you aren’t “working” for India, and you claim here for “intel agencies”. It would be good to be

This would be far more helpful if you included the dose ranges you allude to, how many you think are required to cause damage, and threw in a few citations.

Wow, hard to disagree with a post more. Chrome has been doing some terribly shady stuff with Blink whether we look at their various tracking proposals, “portals” which are a blatant attempt at ossifying Google as basically the internet itse

Someone should release a modified MIT license that adds a clause about limiting use in language models. I don’t think it would be popular, but it’d start a discussion and like make HN front page.

Not to shamelessly plug, but if you check what I’m working on in my profile it should be relevant. Mostly headless, dramatically more modern, and focused on performance.

One thing I really don’t understand (and probably should ask in the discord) is: why the JSX like syntax for macros? It doesn’t seem to have any advantage over function calls, and in fact is a bit disorienting as you’re not constructing a t

Define “performance”? Depending on how you define it I think it either isn’t the causal reason for the lack of success, or has actually 10xed. Batteries were more of an ease than a step function as well.

Tempting to leave it here but I’ll give it a go. One thing humans seem to have that is beyond statistics is creativity. In that stats explain what is, and creativity takes what is and makes a dot outside that other people appreciate. No mod
