I wish people would stop repeating this. The domain was just reused, the site was never actually sold cards. The current owner has absolutely nothing to do with the original domain name.

It's fixed in 10.9 and iOS7, so I imagine they'll backport a patch at some point. Though it's only a matter of time before somebody posts it here as a comment.

It was only ever used to get around Apple removing access to the GUID anyway, so it's a win for privacy. Also has the side effect of stopping authors from using the MAC address as the single form of authentication, which seems to happe

I'll bite. With the original story there's some feeling of comeuppance, and it's not really a huge financial burden on the company making thousands of calls a day. In your story—illegalities aside—they're just being a co

On an iPhone 5 the lag of an application being resumed is almost non-existent. Under iOS7 I too am constantly having to re-touch just because I hit the end of the animation rather than the app.

Hopefully there's an iOS7 Jailbreak to fix the icons and animations.

Yeah I'm about to test that latter rule. Dispute against me seeing bitcoin hardware that was "never received".

Easy. I'll just wait for companies to announce their upcoming app, release a shell fake, and make the original developer pay for the privilege of using the name.

It's not. The original commenter insinuated that the site was somehow inferior do to a history of selling playing cards. As it's just the domain name that was reused, there's clearly no association at all. A name is a name is

A similar idea is used in practice in a building I'm frequently in. Beads of wax in the concrete floor keep it cool in summer by melting when the temperature rises, and recover overnight when the windows are open and resolidify.

As somebody from the industry; I can only imagine that it's being done in China or something. Even then there'd be super slim margins.

It depends on the depth of the comment and other things. If you really want to reply to something, click the permalink and make your reply there. It's an attempt to restrict huge deep trees.

I don't really see a solution, and I'm assuming that nobody else does really. Citizens and foreigners (like me) have equally little power over what their governments do, just a mild decision between two parties come election time.

I actually did that years back when my carrier offered free Facebook and I had no mobile connection. It was essentially just a really dodgy HTTP proxy with their messaging system and another account sitting on a remote server. I got it resp

The standard is for the specification of the pin layout not the plug. As all the links on the wikipedia page are broken and I can't remember the name of the plug itself, we're at a loss here.

I'm struggling to find any source that directly confirms it, but it's most certainly the same plug used in this standard, and the Dell Streak which conforms to it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDMI

Bitmessage is not the solution. If you tell me your address (and related public key), it can just be modified on the wire to MITM the communication. There's no getting around that.

The iPod dock connector is actually an industry standard that Apple happened to use. They didn't create it.

No, that's Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is the PCI interface, Lightning is the alternate USB connector.

The WOT at least provides some authenticity, but only for people you already know. If I want to email you and aren't part of your WOT, then it's as good as plaintext.

If the iTunes agreement contains a clause about not using it to make nuclear weapons (it does), you can be sure as anything most insurance policies are void if you lose things to government action. I had a flick through mine some time ago,

Can't imagine how this went down in person. Group of police turn up and tell you that they're going to destroy all your working media. How would you even go about authenticating such a ridiculous claim? It's like they've
