Maybe the results aren't significant to full 4-digit precision and maybe individuals participating didn't test to their full true "type" ... but when large numbers participate we start to uncover some truth. It's nice to see the analysis.

For enterprise scale with 100+ terabytes of Apache logs (or any other logs) use a tool like SenSage ( http://www.sensage.com ). It adds real-time alerting and operational/security analysis of your entire server history.

I'm sure if Oracle abandons MySQL then after some initial confusion developers and users will settle on 1 or 2 forks and continue from there. Some are already forking MySQL to scratch their own itch.

For low-level performance-critical stuff you can always go down to C++, though I believe that's limited to operations on your own internal data and does not extend to system-level programming.

Thanks to the Boost.org developers the C++ pointer issues are mostly a thing of the past. Using shared_ptr et. al. for all but the most time-critical code has made memory-smashing, memory leaks, etc. so easy to avoid!
