It's most likely a Mac thing. And is probably the main reason I gave up on OS X as a serious work OS, since I'm so dependent on Emacs (org-mode in particular). I hope it gets sorted one day. Apparently it has to do with certain sy

Ditto. Also, FBAR reporting of any account with 10k+ in it. Like seriously, the IRS/US is concerned about 10k in a bank account? Gotta get those tax evaders!

Does anyone know the reasons behind PIA’s actions? Is it safe to assume they are also harvesting their VPN user data?

Magic Arena does this. It's _incredibly_ irritating, especially if you play a combo deck or something click intensive. Those 5-10s animations get really old after the millionth time.

Gnome is one of the most customizable DEs around. You can customize almost every aspect of it via the extension mechanism. I'm even running a full tiling WM right now that is coded as a Gnome extension (PaperWM).

I really like the philosophy as well. But there are probably less than a handful of players that actually managed to beat DCSS unspoilered. It's a really hard game, even knowing the various tricks.

I really miss being able to play a SpEn backstabber. It was the highlight of my DCSS experience. Such a fun, if slightly overpowered, combo. Then they took invisibility out of the enhancer starting book.

It is a common complaint among a lot of experienced DCSS players that the game is too long. I have 10 wins under my belt and I stopped playing mostly for this reason. About half way through the game your victory is essentially guaranteed.

I wonder what percentage of luxury goods are fake on Ebay? In my own experience, 100%. The sellers are not even apologetic - they take your return, issue a refund, and immediately relist the item.

Try not to compete with FAANG. Don't make the interview process stressful. Allow people to work from anywhere. Allow flexible work and fully remote working. 4 day work weeks. Lots of things that can be done to entice the right people.

It doesn't take much effort to unpin the Plex channels from your home page, or remove them completely from your account settings. It's annoying that they're the default, but it's not a huge deal either.

Yeah I seriously don't understand Apple here. The Microsoft Surface Pro is such a great example in contrast, offering a full OS in a tablet form. I had a Pro for about 6 months and I loved that thing, the only problem was the hardware

It's probably just related to crappy laptop hardware. Macbook speakers/mics are great and I never hear any feedback from them. When it happens, and you can hear your voice echoing on everything you say, it gets quite annoying.

It depends a lot on your sound card I guess. Pro streamers use them on twitch as portable options (like Seagull) and they sound great to me. The only real downside to it is the cable is sort of flimsy and the 3.5mm termination is not great

The ModMic is also excellent, and you can attach it to existing headphones [1]. I use this at home with my prized Sennheisers. It baffles me that some people don't seem to care about their audio quality on calls. The most obnoxious are

Hi André. Encore looks really cool! It must have taken a huge amount of work to put this together. I think streamlining from IDE to production is the future of tooling and frameworks, and it looks like you are going in that direction. I fee

Surely there is some compromise. Diesel is far worse than petrol for local pollution for example. So let's ban diesel in the city, then as electric becomes more viable, we can finally ban petrol as well. We shouldn't have sympathy

In pretty much every western European country your tax rates can easily hit 60%+ (like the 100k 60% cliff in the UK). The budgets of these governments are all largely funded on the backs of middle class income tax - 40% of all receipts in t

Raft is a large improvement over Paxos for practical implementations. But it's still tricky to get right. As far as I know, the only widely used, battle tested Raft implementation is github.com/hashicorp/raft. Which is why so

Wow when did they add that to TestComments? I really disagree though. The native testing framework is overly clunky and verbose. It also makes things harder to debug when they fail. Just look at the example it gives! You don't even kno

It sounds like you have a memory leak in your golang app. That shouldn't be happening. Time to bust out pprof. I'd say though GC is what limits golang as a systems language. If you are doing lots of memory heavy things, I'd s

I was also a victim of this. At my first engineering job, I came up with a novel way to handle project estimation for a very large company, using a combination of basic statistical techniques (hierarchical linear regression, markov chains).
