To be fair P hacking is rampant across Academia and certainly not only in Psychology.

"Various kinds of Models"... uh huh. QM is the most rigorously tested and most accurate scientific theory in the whole of human history and nothing even comes remotely close. You seem to think you have insights that the greatest m

Obviously, but I was specifically referring to the typical algorithm oriented whiteboard questions found at major tech company interviews. Working a real world problem on a whiteboard I see no issue with.

Google has already shown that those types of questions have 0 correlation to developer success.

Maybe but once you are in you have the golden ticket. Source: am a current DS with an MS and like the guy in the article I get contacted by recruiters weekly.

This is so wrong that it actually hurts my brain. Albert Einstein, a certifiable genius probably could not tell you how to invert a binary tree, this has nothing to do with intelligence and everything to do with how many HackerRank problems

Never understood this logic, "We do it so why should we care when other people do it to us." Total insanity.

I'm not a MechE but I don't see why it would be hard to show that past a certain size steel can no longer support the structure of a ship.

But you can easily calculate why its impossible to build a battleship beyond a certain size and understand why that trend is silly. I challenge you to do something similar with compute and AI. Not that I necessarily disagree with your thesi

Do you know why there is a difference between Manslaughter and Murder in the legal code? For the same reason that your statement is absurd. If you don't understand that then we have nothing else to discuss.

That's not what I said, that's what you are saying, without evidence to back it up I might add. I doubt you are privy to military briefings where they make these decisions. Your argument is quite childlike.

I'll second this idea having survived a Physics BS doing just this. I'd also strongly recommend a series of books called Schaum's Outlines, they vary in quality but cover many advanced topics and have hundreds of solved probl

I agree with the sentiment but almost no other profession does this. Could you imagine a Surgeon being forced to "Audition" for his job? "Here perform heart surgery on this guy for us, if he lives you get the job."

You are implying that the wealthy aren't already doing hoarding currency instead of spending? Seems like a strange statement to make.

Pretty simple, return to a 90% top tax rate and give the proceeds out as Basic Income. This shit situation we are in is not sustainable, we have levels of inequality in the US not seen since the roaring 20s and we all know how that ended.

Indeed, I'm only pointing out the absurdity of the US system.

Honestly that's just kind of cute. Good private schools in the US regularly cost over $40,000 per year.

Change the way you think about it. Gamify conversation. Don't try to learn intuition about conversation flow, teach yourself through observation which I'm sure you are probably very good at.

OpenAI, Allen Institute for AI, MIRI, etc. are quite successful in the AI industry. Those are all in the US and pay competitive salaries though. It seems to me that Salary is a primary driver here, why stay at Cambridge for 40k gbp/yr

For someone as deeply entrenched in Tech as Thiel you would think the "in practice" part would be quite clear to him.

Seems very unclear if you could "instruct" true AGI to do something. So you are claiming that by making this statement you are not assuming that it is impossible to control an AGI?
