A simpler, lower-tech alternative is to subscribe to Bandcamp newsletters. Infinite discoverability to be had and any purchases made directly support artists. There are also excellent listener-supported radio stations that are dedicated to

This was me a few years ago, but the admin job I gave myself maintaining this stuff eventually got old. These days, I use native HomeKit for everything. Preferably over Matter/Thread, but HomeKit is a requirement. No HA. If it doesn&#x

HoustonArchitecture.com, a site that posts about new development projects in the Houston area, had the exact same thing happen to them. (They also got hacked; don't remember the details.) They now pay the Cloudflare tax.

IKEA furniture can hold up very well if you follow the instructions precisely and don't disassemble them (in most cases). We have furniture from IKEA that we bought at least five years ago that still functions great. A mattress we got

I have a Firewalla. They run a WireGuard proxy (sort of like a DERP in Tailscale), so I use that. It actually works more often than Tailscale somehow, and since it's just WG, it works perfectly with my GL.iNet travel hotspots. Firewall

Avoiding HD is basically impossible here in the US if you own a home. It's either them, Lowe's or, if you're lucky, some third party mom and pop that will have an even shittier website and probably not what youre looking for.

TIL! Sharding would be so easy! Just run "split" and spread the chunks over a bunch of servers, then run "recutils" with "parallel" to retrieve! Truly webscale.

The predatory cesspit has always been there. It just moves every few decades. That moving process always looks like what the author outlined here. New technology emerges. It's first few years are innocent. Then, someone discovers how t

So I've been spending a lot of time in the financial services/payment space and might be able to answer some of your questions. The EU activated the Digital Online Resiliency Act (DORA) last year (passed in 2023) which, amongst ot

Sucks that it didn't become that. "heroku up" or "cf push" (Heroku kind of sort of invented build packs) was hella addictive. Shoot, I'm sad that Docker didn't become the way to run containers. compose

This is the beauty of sOps. Store the secrets in the code, but store the keys in AWS SM and have sOps do the work. Works great with Instance Profiles or IRSA.

Ironically agents F'IN LOVE using dotenv for config but really struggle with sOps (as of Opus 4.6; maybe its better now). I was a massive fan of dotenv but sOps is so much cleaner, easy enough to use and works well enough in k8s.

MLB is the exact opposite of this. You can't get tickets without the Ballpark app. No paper tickets at most stadiums. The app asks for all sorts of personal info too (which I usually spoof). They're even trying for biometric check
