Docker is the Myspace of container engines. It's stupidly unreliable, at least on MacOs. I've resorted to running system prune every week or so to keep it from getting totally out of control. Reminds me of NPM and rm-rfing node_mo

This is interesting coming from MS! I've used a lot of VM/GC languages and IMO C# is the best of them all. All the things people complain the most about, like type erasure in Java, or lack of generics in Go, are done right in C#.

In Java at least, you can write your own Charset implementation then the language will support it normally. This uses the byte raw access I'm ranting about to work

I had to convert some strings to Base85 some years ago to integrate with an ancient system. There's no way to support all the different character sets out there "out of the box". Unless you want a crippled language you need t

Another option, now that MS open sourced .NET core, is to use C# They learned from Java's terrible sins. Features include value types (you can even use them as generic params!) And no type Erasure. Besides massive improvements the lang

You need raw values for serialization over the wire and to files. And for any kind of compression. And for searching (it's hard to build indexes in Unicode because of uneven symbol widths). You could convert to a different character fo

Your site is public, what do you expect? It's not abuse to load public websites. T&C is meaningless for public sites. Equivalent to real life sign hanging in a shop "whoever reads this is bound to the following conditions"

In general, Kotlin is 5-10x faster than JS and uses 1/2 the memory. The speed difference depends on what you're doing, but I would guess it's rare to find situations where Kotlin is less than twice as fast

I really like rust, the design is great. I'm glad they cleaned up OOP and ditched nasty C++ stuff like templates. However, I went through the book recently and I'm quite annoyed that much of the syntax differs needlessly from C li

I agree. The language design is great, but they purposely use weird conventions everywhere. And by weird, I mean foreign to C++ programmers which is 90% of their user base. They should have done what java did. Copy C++ syntax, only change i

The main problem is that their Regex library doesn't have a recrusion limit. I'm honestly amazed they've been able to scale Lua scripts to the point they can use it as a global WAF. Knowing this, it may be easy to create atta

WAF is brittle and breaks more than it fixes IMO. It's just regex against URL's in 99% of cases. If you think you need one, you need to fix the app code, there will be more vulnerabilities it doesn't block

Yes. Needing any of these to secure your application means the app code is broken. Every WAF I've used breaks URL's randomly because they're just pattern matching against known attacks to a definitely broken system. Any prope
