My question would be along the lines of Alan Kay: is it really complex or did we just make it complicated?

Oh, do you check in the rewritten packages into git?

What is horrible about managing it? The biggest problem I encountered with vendoring is getting rid of git submodules.

Could employees of different companies form a group that could get better rates? One of the problems with 401ks is that they are still related to your employer.

This seems weird to me. While it's true that I don't want dependencies to mess up my git diff, I can't say that a dependency change has "nothing to do with the project". A change in dependencies almost always mean

If you live reasonably close to a grocery store, you can actually go once per day and don't need to carry that much at any one time. On the plus side the food is more fresh because it didn't have to sit around for a week or two.

Go seems to be heavily optimized for write-time efficiency instead of runtime efficiency.

Thanks for all the info! Very informative. "Updating dependencies across all services is somewhat of an anti pattern in microservices, this chain of dependencies shouldn't exist." But what about, say, your tracing library.

Endless arguing over 2 vs 4 spaces or spaces vs tabs has not really advanced the programming industry very much, despite being highly democratic. For a lot of these small decisions, it doesn't really matter what you choose as long as

A good point. I've seen people say that the Go designers are designing a language for "bad programmers", but maybe they're just designing for humans. Maybe code readability is more important than conciseness.

I guess that makes Go the inverse of Perl. I assume if a Perl programmer shakes hands with a Go programmer, they cancel each other out.

That's a lot of microservices. How do you handle changing the interface of a service in a backward incompatible way? Or updating a dependency across all services?

I'm using Go on App Engine, decently large scale site. It's a pretty good setup. Includes a task queue, database, file storage, almost everything you need. Not having to manage those things yourself is pretty fantastic. No need

I think I'd rather just manipulate HTML with Javascript. At least then I only have one problem, which is HTML with inline styles. No separate CSS file to maintain or CSS rule precedence to worry about.

Raw SQL still needs to be parsed and converted into some data structure. The difference I think is that in RQL you are just making the data structure on the client side then sending it to the server.
