Agreed. I'm assuming there has to be some emacs plugins that do this in an interactive buffer right? I'm curious now

Does the Apple Sandbox[1] not count? What about TrustedBSD[2] and the MAC (Mandatory Access Control) subsystem introduced as part of SEDarwin[3]? [1] https://www.ise.io/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/apple-sa

Unfortunately the nice parts of the UI are based on mostly the Mach part of the kernel, not BSD. I don’t think the macOS user space would be possible without Mach ports and tasks.

Can't wait for the eventual rename to GPT Core, GPT Plus, GPT Pro, and GPT Pro Max models! I can see it now: > Unlock our industry leading reasoning features by upgrading to the GPT 4 Pro Max plan.

Most of the issues are with the default user space and configuration. Maybe they should certify Darwin w/ a FreeBSD user space and HFS+ filesystem instead? The certification made sense during the late 90s and early 2000s. It made it ea

Don’t know why you’re so adverse to using the phrase “solar panels.” The biggest downside to solar is the amount of surface area required and cost per panel. Not to mention the amount of rare earth required to make just one. I’d be interest

I don't understand this perspective. I don't buy an iPhone for "social status", or "tech fashion." I buy it for the features. Those of which Android has no analogy. This is not meant to be an Android vs iOS deb

Again, how do Windows and macOS (to an extent) solve this? It’s possible, just not incentivized. Show me the incentives and I’ll show you the outcomes.

It baffles me as to why. I think it’s hilarious how Linus is so careful to not break user space (for good reason) and all the user space libraries break every week.

Thank you, Mike for clarifying all of this and providing us with a first-person account of the events described. I do want to apologize - I meant no disrespect in regard to the technical achievements of the Dylan team. In fact, I share the

Well to be fair they should've compared it to something price comparable for the whole package. Comparing $600 Mac mini vs $600 CPU doesn't make sense. I can get work done with the Mini, that can't be said with one CPU.

Bingo. I'm tired of people claiming that macOS (XNU more specifically) is just BSD under the hood. It's called X is not Unix for a reason! I feel like so much awesome engineering in XNU around security and portability, as well as

I'm using Obj-C for the first time in years for a side project. I'm working on making a Wayland backend for cocotron on Linux. It is magical the way I can just use the C libraries with all the dynamic goodness Obj-C.

I think it's stretching the truth a little to say that Apple "had a very nice system for UI development on Dylan." The Dylan Eulogy site itself claims they hadn't even finished their Interface Builder [1] by the time it

If time is money, how much would it cost you to play with those configs vs getting the MacBook? Every time I've done the math, I end up leaning towards the MacBook.

Would love to buy one of these to run as a server, but I really don’t need it. :) Besides that, my 16in MacBook Pro with M2 Max and 32gb RAM still does everything I need. I’m still so impressed with the raw performance and long battery life

Besides the latency, this is why I will never use game streaming. I don’t believe it can replace a dedicated computer. Besides that, I fear the cloud gaming business model will be applied to all aspects of personal computing. Imagine if in
