But basically the situation would have become more like android, instead of people getting their distributions from debian or redhat every PC manufacturer would have created their own distro. Upvoted for a very intelligent reply and extre

You'd be fine. Just let the inspectors in and be super-transparent. Plenty of people have research reactors, and if you aren't a belligerent theocracy, you shouldn't have much of a problem. Just play nice.

I really want to love this. iPad hardware just doesn't deliver. The problem isn't that nice drawing software like this doesn't exist, it's that styli on iPad still suck . The capacitive screen (even on "new" iPad) only has about a 6mm capa

Taking this too seriously, but you could probably do it by hacking up a mobile inkjet printer and turning the ink volume way down to control ink bleed. Edit: Looks like some guy already did this: http://blog.makezine.com/2011/09/26/toilet-

The whole joy of something not working and you sitting in front of the system for hours at length to get it working is something i truly miss. I certainly don't. Are you sure this isn't just rosy retrospection?[1] There's a reason why apt

Around where? Seattle? Certainly not within a 200 mile radius of, well, just about anywhere else. When I see Microsoft's new ads, I still cringe. It's just a veiled "developers, developers, developers" thing. It still feels like the rich

Everyone talks about authenticity in social media (that somebody wants to see "real" content from "real" people) which really makes sense because it is the most human thing. But what if the bots pass a Turing test and deliver relevant conte

I'm going to ask the dumb question that the article doesn't explain: why do people hate Romanians so much? I've never found Romanians awful people. Is this just more ethnocentric rubbish and typical hostility toward Eastern European immigra

I guess I didn't get to my point clearly. What I'm saying was "Who cares what the temperature in the data center is? We'll just put some guy in a cold suit if it is more efficient." Humans usually adapt when it is in their favor to.

I am afraid of how this will actually turn out. I think the biggest problem is going to be sorting the signal to noise ratio: women's fashion is ephemeral as well as seasonal. Items people want will be in perennially short supply, and items

The same argument could be used with assembly language vs. Ruby/Python, but that doesn't stop people from using higher-level abstractions to get things done easily. They exist to streamline a process. I see much ado about nothing in these c

The problem with education is that these tests treat students as a commodity. "Standardized" tests tend not to be even remotely useful in diagnosing the positive social capability of a human being. It is a travesty that American teachers an
