My favorite for #4 is Google's +1. You need a Google Plus account. +1 is like Facebook like, only it boosts the ranking of that link whenever you are logged in and search. Not every page has a +1 button, but there is a chrome plugin for tha

It may be a difficult client, but I can also see someone doing this out of curiosity: would it work? In a freelance relationship that is just beginning, there is not much to lose. Historically computers have made micromanagement easier. T

A "review" from Luis Guzman, https://plus.google.com/u/0/103069458643902853500/posts/Jg8R... : So what is the movie about? "Travelling Salesman is an intellectual thriller about four mathematicians hired by the U.S. government to solve t

Why would a browser use HEAD instead of conditional GET to re-request cached content? It would require one more round-trip if a refresh is actually required.

It's off-topic, but could anyone critique a rule for (not) naming things I came up with recently: If something (an expression or function) is used more than once, give it a name. If it's used once, name it iff you would otherwise comment to

Can you show some code that is the result from this process? It seems really interesting, although I've always consciously fought with the tendency to overformalize problems I don't yet understand well.

Isn't Cloudflare pretty much a general purpose solution for DDoS? Is there any reason not to use them if you're often a target and don't want to deal with it yourself?

I think people choose DDG for its emotional appeal (they like that it's a small company, privacy benefits, all kind of reasons besides search quality). Later they rationalize about it being better. Frankly, I think this is morally wrong. Wh

How do you decide whether to run a spot or on-demand instance to handle dynamic load? What happens if spot instance cost suddenly spikes? Also, how do you use regions/availability zones?

Great advice, but I've heard it before. Any chance of an article describing what really happened for each of the problems listed, and how you solved it?

That's pretty much what http://www.couchsurfing.org do, but for free. Clearly there is both supply and demand for such a marketplace. Were airbnbs or YC aware of couchsurfing?

Trying to make sense of a power law distribution using average of the head is an interesting crutch, but a fairly crude one. What are other ways to intuitively understand power law distributions? Where are the raw data for this one?

Even in Java you don't need the trivial getters/setters anymore. Everyone uses an IDE with refactoring capabilities, so the change can be done instantly when necessary. Why uglify your code in advance?
