Zoom always just works. My employer has cycled through a half dozen video chat conferencing tools and had to keep going back to Zoom because they absolutely nail the audio and networking code. Worth every single penny.

My experience is that nobody actually does things The Rails Way, which is where most of the benefits come in. No, they’ll start out in Rails such that their underlying data model evolves into a huge mess (because Rails guards against most p

A lockdown is a a government-issued stay-at-home order. The presence of such an order should be, but isn't necessarily, aligned with the presence of a prevalent disease.

This is part of why stock options are so valuable to organizations as an incentive: the retention power of high pay without the calculus of “do I have enough?” from liquid compensation

A lot of software companies’ customer contracts specify that only U.S. employees can access customer data, also. Ops, customer support engineering, and many kinds of bug fixes all require that access.

Also, part of working smart is owning meaningful equity in a business likely to generate meaningful returns. Startups are high risk, high reward, and if the GP doesn't care for how their luck has played out at startups, there are many

My team lead philosophy: engineers that score successes continue to be successful. There will always be a backlog of tickets, and you can't hit inbox zero. But you can hack it. Executives need to increase the Average Sales Price (ASP)

You hit on the real reason architects push microservices in smaller companies: it limits options to engineers and to the startup by putting up walls in the form of network rules that are resistant to change. A startup needs all the options

It’s my understanding founders sometimes want to go back home while the VCs insist on SV. From the VC side, I wonder if the high burn is almost a plus: they need the founders to need a lot of money so the VCs can scoop up a higher percentag
