If you live in the UK and have been in your job for less than two years, you don't have the protection from being fired you think you do. Our laws protect you from being fired for discriminatory reasons but not much else

Videos are much more efficient than apngs or gifs, though, and it's just as easy to allow downloads (unless they're using variable bitrates which are a bit pointless for short animations anyway)

I don't think it necessarily implies a balance of power. Even without that, it makes sense for a company to allow the candidate to ask lots of questions to make sure it would be the right job for them and they're likely to be happ

Obviously there's no need to ask permission just to have a side project, but if you have any intention of making money from it and there's an IP clause in your contract which might get in the way of that it's another matter

Depends what you use them for. With a high-capacity hard drive you could store a lot of downloaded movies and you can always download them again if it fails

It probably wouldn't encourage many people to upgrade their phones, though. They would probably just see the website as broken and either click through the warning or abandon it completely
