I kind of suspect it's a bit of a light-weight Pareto principle: you can gain 70-80% high-level knowledge (note that I said knowledge , not understanding ), which is enough to get started with some real-world applications with suffic

Heroku (and pretty much every PaaS) has features like this built in, and they tend to work really well... assuming you're using Heroku. If you're using a PaaS that offers this, you (99.9% of the time) shouldn't look elsewhere

I'd like a solid answer to this too; it's my biggest concern with any sort of "batch online requests" functionality in any language; unsafe shutdowns can/will always happen at some point , and it feels like this

I didn't mean to imply that the change was necessarily done in bad faith. I'm just used to them matching, and as such commented on the article title without considering that they didn't match.

I've seen this point made elsewhere too, but I'm not sure I understand it. The ISAs are, as far as I know, capped at 30k, and only apply if you're making 50k/yr. I can't imagine a situation where someone's deci

I may have been unclear and didn't mean to imply there there was a rush of students declaring bankrupcy, thus this law made sense. The law is, in my opinion, stupid . I was implying that education should never have been allowed to bec

Part of my point, that I did not make clear, is that this law came into effect January 1st. A 3 month turn-around between something becoming illegal, and a "settlement" being reached, feels awfully fast to me, and implies that eve

For what it's worth (I learned this recently and was equally surprised by it) student loans were not non-dischargable until 2005. Ie, for all time before 2005, a student could do what you describe, and as far as I know it wasn't a

There are a variety of other, similar Preview Environment offerings out there, and most PaaS offer their own options built in. If you're using a PaaS with a built-in solution, you'll almost always be better off using theirs. A lot
