I have many, many colleagues from EU: French, German, Italian, Belgian, Croatian, all among the best in the field. None of them remotely interested in going back. I’m actually an American who lived in EU for several years and loved it.

As a professor at a top institution I can say with certainty the entire US higher education system is fatally broken and the student loan bubble will burst to disastrous results. The situation as it stands is so bad that I welcome any other

Lots of "first-party" domains used the same IP address of known adtech servers, it's pretty easy to find if you have the data.

I use logic to make music and the noise from the fan on my 15" MBP goes beyond annoyance to making it hard to perform my task as I can't hear subtleties without cranking up the volume to compensate for the fan. As soon as the 14&

Broader take on free speech to encompass more forms of communication more-or-less. Consent of the Networked by Rebecca MacKinnon is a very good book on the subject vis-a-vis tech/regulation/etc.

I studied free expression in grad school and worked on advocacy in the tech space related to free expression, it's a topic I'm qualified to teach, and I have a lot of theoretical and practical experience to share with students. H

I was the first person to allow bitcoin donations for music and netted roughly $10 at the time, which today would be worth nearly half a million dollars. I happened to be lucky my interests in emerging tech and music lined up when I had an

Yes, but complaining about “the government” in a functioning democracy* is just complaining about fellow citizens. Making “the government” into some exogenous monolith makes no sense. * Local conditions may vary, contact your local election

The competition for Facebook is owning the social graph as a means to fuel advertising profits. Google+ failed, sure. Instagram would have been eating Mark's lunch right now if he didn't buy them, and he knows it.

Imagine a world where Facebook didn’t buy WhatsApp and Instagram. So I think the better hypothetical is “imagine a world where Facebook didn’t leverage its existing dominance to preempt competitors”.

The questions are twofold: does Facebook do more good than bad? Could the good be accomplished without much of the bad? The answers to both questions are arguably bad for Facebook.

Not every passage of every song will produce a meaningful difference. The areas where a 24bit vs. 16bit file differ most are in subtle dynamic changes. For example, there was a specific ~ 2-second transition in a recording of Steve Reich
