Instead of sending out email, there should be a website that rates HR at tech companies. Whether they post fake jobs, slow response, no-show, are rude, or ghost candidates. This helps developers prepare themselves for what to expect if it

> Signaling desperation attracts predators far more often than it attracts real friends. This is something so obvious but has eluded me until you said it. I have seen this happen in work settings and have never been able to pinpoint it.

I think this concept was popularized by VCs like SoftBank. It also makes me wonder how much of a tech bubble we are in and what happens when it finally bursts.

If you listen to what a lot of YC partners say, most of them never say anything that is very insightful. Most are generic advice that can be applied to anything. And some partners have already spent more time at YC than actually founding

Execution implies competition. There’s no competition to be had if Google wants to clone you. They will always win because it cost them nothing to send 30 engineers to “execute” better than you.

I can see why. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel. Most startups are desperate and strap for cash. Added to the fact, they don’t have a lawyer on payroll, makes it a easy target for abuse.

This is why you never share details with strangers even if they work at big tech. I’ve heard stories of big tech calling startups and asking questions about their implementation, framing it like they want to acquire them, and then flat out

The only startups that will offer this will probably be bootstrap companies. Otherwise, VC backed companies will always push for stock options because it’s a better deal for them. I hope more startups starts offering revenue sharing.

I thought about the X1 Carbon, but the aspect ratio was a turn off for me. Even though it is 14 inch, somehow, I feel I get more usable space with Macs. I am waiting for the 14 inch though since I also plan to keep it for 4-5 years.

When people are sufficiently separated and it doesn’t affect them, people can make very poor decisions on the fate of others.

So as a developer, I will need to reapply every year to get the benefits and if I miss the window to apply, I will continue to have to pay 30% for the remainder of the year? Why can’t they just automatically apply it to all eligible devel

It doesn’t, but if you are technical, it won’t hurt either. You are simply at the same level your last job. But if your goal is to start your own business without VC funding, it’s extremely valuable personally. A failed startup is better th

This is incredibly naive. Another view is that enough engineers have been burnt enough by these founders that they got smarter. Not everyone is looking to tend their microbrew as you think.

As a founder, there is nothing I hate more than other founders expecting their employees to work 996 for them. It shows they don’t respect their employees time and abuse it for their will. Unfortunately, this seems common in the startup w

Seeing the types of companies coming out of YC in the last few years, I can’t help but think their best years are behind them. Or maybe I am just older and don’t buy into their koolaid anymore.
