i use and love Google Cloud Datastore, but it also falls into this proprietary umbrella. Though honestly you should never write your app directly against a database schema. ORM or FRM (functional relationship mapping) is how it should be d

Very interesting. It seems he got busted by making the mistake of once-upon-a-time hosting in the US and Canada, thus providing them grounds for persecution. So reading in that context, they would have been free and clear if it were not fo

While that may be true, I would say that your power consumption example is not related to the power conservation claim in the article. You are talking about the power required to execute the AI, where the article is discussing the applicati

Ironic anicdote: I order a cheap ($50) generic waterproof jacket from Amazon and got what was obviously a counterfit Northface (with branding and everything). Thankfully they sold and priced it as a generic so I knew what I was getting.

A personal anicdote, but I run a SaaS, and there is an extremely pronounced (negative) difference in the sophistication of technical support queries asked by PHP devs vs those in other languages. This may be because PHP is so ubiquitous a

I always think (thought?) containers are good if you own your own hardware. I use 'micro' cloud vm instances for my deployments and don't feel the need to squish more functionality into a $5/month VM.

as a 'expert' multithreading programmer, i can confidently say that most developers should stay away from fine-graned multithreading (generally speaking of course). You will have much greater productivity gains and less debugging

yeah, and it's a lot less than $5! basically I had to stop adwords display ads. It doesn't seem to be usable by startups with non-traditional keywords, at least until I SEO the site more (then will try again)

thanks for the input, yeah I think I need to do more "inbound marketing" before attempting adwords (display). I have a 4 to 6 quality score, and nothing is displayed unless the CPC is astronomical.

This article may be hype, but the Google Adwords monopoly is very real and I wish it died. I run a SaaS startup (PhantomJsCloud) and tried adwords. No advertising competition, and targeted very specific actionable search queries. Google
