A browser ad that imitates a windows dialog can only guess one color per impression. Forcing Mallory to settle for 1/3 of the otherwise-vulnerable population is a definite improvement.

The title bar thing, yes. The accent color? If you buy a new Windows 10 machine off the shelf, after you enter your name, it asks what your favorite color is. I think blue is highlighted when that screen comes up, but you can't miss th

Government is a fact of how humans think. Tech isn't going to change how our brains work.

Windows 10 lets you pick a "custom accent color," and it allows you to make a few other custom tweaks as well (should the titlebar be white or colored?). Since this is part of the initial setup wizard, I think it would be pretty h

The NSA's of the world don't need to hack Google's infrastructure. They can just ask. This is protection from rogue employees acting independently, assuming it's not just marketing and ego-stroking for the engineers.

> C++11 and beyond is just as safe as any language. That's just not accurate. This is UB, despite being done entirely using modern C++ API: #include <iostream> #include <vector> using namespace std;

That's a known bug: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/32670 This bug was posted on April 1st, being a bit more ha-ha-only-serious than the emoji-based error handling one that the core team put on.

Windows, remember? The OP is building a program on his Mac and sending it to his Windows-using friend. Windows has a "find" command, but it's a full-text search thing, unlike on *nix where it does find-by-name. See: http:&#x

Allocating memory can be as cheap as adding to a number. Even if you want a concurrent allocator, atomic increments are pretty fast compared to any typical malloc. It's allocating and then freeing that's slow. A copying-compacti

If it doesn't have any self-replication code, then how can did DrWeb get a copy? Did somebody drop in on a Tor hacking forum, or is it being distributed through a separate system, or did they just make it up for marketing, or what? (Th

Swift is more high-level. That's not an accident: Swift is designed to write the front end of an interactive application, while Rust is designed to build the back end thereof. But if you're coming from dynamic languages, Rust&#x

Non-lexical scope won't help with that. Remember that Rust does not allow mutable aliasing, so this code can never be allowed: let mut arr = [1, 2]; let a = &mut arr[0]; let b = &mut arr[0]; This code could be
